Library period in school used to be my Tintin reading period. They had very few collections and most of us would want this or that week's Sportstar magazine to steal the poster.

What made Tintin iconic? Was it the writing or the illustration? I was impressed with the illustrations more.

Best part about Tintin is that he matures thru his journey of the 24 adventures, both as a human and in relations.

The Adventures of Tintin was created by leading Belgian cartoonist  Georges Remi, who wrote under the pen name Hergé.

The series first appeared in Le Petit Le Vingtième youth supplement  to the Belgian newspaper Le Vingtième Siècle in January 1929.

Tintin’s stories have been translated into more than 70 languages and more than 230 million copies have been sold worldwide.

Tintin was a young Belgian reporter who got involved in dangerous cases and solved it with his own creative ideas. He went to Russia to cover a story for his newspaper and wrote his first report article there.

You’ll generally spot him in his blue sweater and rolled up pants. Who can forget the flipped copper hairstyle?

Despite being surrounded by evil, Tintin never compromised in his ideals and was often defined as intelligent and a well balanced character by readers.

He had a pet companion Snowy who was a White Wire Fox Terrier Dog. Captain Archibald Haddock who is a Merchant Marine Sea Captain is Tintin’s best friend. The other popular characters in the series are Professor Calculus, Thomson and Thompson and Bianca Castafiore.

Herge once said, “ “Tintin is me wanting to be heroic and perfect…” “Tintin is me… my eyes, my feelings, my lungs, my guts!... I believe I am the only person able to animate him, the only person able to give him a soul.”

The Adventures of Tintin series will always be remembered for its interesting plots, his travel adventures, memorable characters and not to forget the captivating, colourful and clear drawings.
