Tokyo Olympics Day 5 Update: Eye on Sindhu , Japan into Tennis Quarters

PV Sindhu won the match 21-9 21-16 defeating Hong Kong's Cheung Ngan Yi to qualify for the women's 16 round and the Indian women's hockey team lost to Great Britain in 4-1 on the 5th day of Olympics 2020.

There will be 33 sports at 339 events across 42 venues at the Tokyo Olympic. The 2021 event has an almost identical schedule to that planned for last year. All events will take place a day earlier than planned for 2020. 

  • Badminton Women's Singles: PV Sindhu vs Cheung Ngan Yi

PV Sindhu, who won a silver medal in Rio 2-0 defeating Cheung Ngan Yi of Hong Kong in a Group J badminton match and also won the women's singles Round 16 on day 5 of Tokyo Olympics 2020.

  • Japan into Tennis Quarters: Kei Nishikori vs Ivashka

Ilya Ivashka and Kei Nishikori will fight against each other in the 3rd round of the Olympics for the 1st time in their career. 

Japan's last hope of a single tennis match secured a place in the quarterfinals on Wednesday, with Kei Nishikori taking the first hard seat for Belarus' Ilya Ivashka's side before rolling a 6-0 "bagel" in the second. 

Nishikori could be tough in the quarterfinals to keep Japan’s dream alive. 

Prediction: Kei Nishikori to win in three sets.

  • Britain Won Gold in Men's 4x200m Freestyle Relay 

Tom Dean became the first British swimmer to win more than one medal in one Olympic in 113 years after helping Team Great Britain win the 4x200m freestyle relay final at the Tokyo Aquatics Center. Russia won silver in 7: 01.81, while Australia claimed bronze. at 7: 01.84 behind the last shiny leg by Thomas Neill.

  • Hockey Women's Tournament: Great Britain vs India

The Indian women's hockey team lost 1-4 to Great Britain in the Pool  match. The Indians were guilty of wasting opportunities in their first two games and the trend continued on Wednesday at the Oi Hockey Stadium. 

Great Britain moved up with a win here and came closer to qualification. On the other side India will not make it, as they find themselves at the bottom of the group for the moment. 

  • Archery Tournament: Tarundeep Rai vs Itay Shanny 

Indian archer Tarundeep Rai was knocked out by Israel's Italian Itay Shanny -1/16 Eliminations. Rai started with a poor 7-8-9 as Shanny gathered the two points in the first set. Tarundeep came up with a 10-8-9 in the next over against Shanny's 8-9-9. 

Itay Shanny defeated Tarundeep Rai 6-4 in the 1/16 eliminations round.
