Tory Lanez Sentenced to 10 Years in Prison for Shooting Megan Thee Stallion

Canadian rapper Tory Lanez was accused of shooting Grammy-winning rapper Megan Thee Stallion, 28, injuring her feet after a pool party in the Hollywood Hills in July 2020.

Canadian rapper Tory Lanez has been sentenced to 10 years in prison following his conviction for shooting fellow musician Megan Thee Stallion during a dispute in 2020, as reported by local media in Los Angeles.

Judge David Herriford delivered the sentence to the 30-year-old rapper, known legally as Daystar Peterson, during a delayed hearing in Los Angeles Superior Court, as per USA Today's report.

On December 23, a jury found Lanez guilty of multiple charges, including possessing a loaded and unregistered firearm in a vehicle, assault with a semiautomatic handgun, and negligently discharging a firearm.

The incident involved Lanez allegedly shooting Grammy-winning rapper Megan Thee Stallion, aged 28, causing injury to her feet after a pool party in the Hollywood Hills in July 2020.

According to Megan Thee Stallion's testimony during the two-week trial, the shooting followed a heated argument that escalated while discussing their respective music careers.

Megan Thee Stallion underwent surgery and spent four days in the hospital. Physical therapy was required to enable her to walk again, as she revealed in an interview with Rolling Stone magazine.

The Houston-based artist, whose real name is Megan Pete, expressed her fear of not being able to continue her musical journey after the incident, stating, "I was very scared that I was not able to be Megan Thee Stallion no more."

In 2021, Megan Thee Stallion earned Grammy awards for categories including best new artist, best rap performance, and best rap song. She has additionally received six more Grammy nominations.

Los Angeles County District Attorney George Gascon emphasized in a statement following the verdict that crimes like assault and sexual violence often go unreported by women, particularly Black women, due to concerns of not being believed.
