Amongst the most heart-breaking Covid stories that have shaken the nation is the story of twins Joefred and Ralphred from the land of Meerut.
Joefred and Ralphred celebrated their 24th birthday on April 23 and unfortunately they both caught Covid a day later.
Their parents stay in Meerut and both are teachers.
Joefred worked for Accenture and he was working from home while his twin brother Ralphred who worked for Hyundai Mubis Company in Hyderabad had come down due to an arm injury. Another brother Nelfred is also part of the family.
The twins were 6 feet tall, dressed similar and they attended the same engineering college in Coimbatore. According to their father Raphael, “Whatever happened to one, it happened to the other.”
“That’s how it was since their birth”, he said. They were born just 3 minutes apart.
The twins developed a fever after their birthday. They were being given medical treatment at home however their condition worsened and the parents had no option but to admit their sons into hospital on May 1.
On May 10 the boys tested negative although the joy of this good news was only short-lived. After three days Joefred passed away.
“Three days later, our world came crashing... When Joefred died, I had a sixth sense that Ralphred would not make it. Simply because they were inseparable,” Mr Raphael told the Indian Express.
Ralfred made a call to his mother and told her that he was recovering. He enquired about Joefred’s health but by that time Joefred passed away.
The parents made up a story that they shifted him to a hospital in Delhi although Ralfred didn’t buy the lies. He told his mother, “You are lying.”
That was his last call to his mother and just like his brother he too passed away the very next day.
The boys died on May 13 and May 14, just 14 hours apart. The brothers desired to work hard to give their parents a better life who had struggled as teachers for many years. They had plans to fly to Korea and then perhaps Germany for work.
Fate however had different plans for the twins. The brothers were inseparable in life and likewise remained inseparable even in death.
