With the World Cup last held in England in 1999, it is twenty years since the UK welcomed tourists from around the world for this competition.
With less than 100 days to go for the 12th edition of the Cricket World Cup 2019, scheduled to be held in the United Kingdom (UK) from 30 May – 14July, UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) and VFS Global are gearing up to welcome large numbers of cricket-lovers expected to make the trip from India to the UK.
With the World Cup last held in England in 1999, it is twenty years since the UK welcomed tourists from around the world for this competition. This year, tens of thousands of Indian visitors are expected to travel to the UK from India to attend the tournament.
As the tournament will coincide with the peak travel season in India, VFS Global is introducing special conveniences and packages aimed at making the visa application process more convenient for applicants.
Services such as Group Appointments, Prime Time Saturday/weekday facility (where applicants can submit applications outside regular hours, i.e. 9am – 2 pm on Saturdays, and in the evenings on weekdays), and Premium Lounge services will be available at discounted rates throughout the peak season.
Bruce Bucknell, British Deputy High Commissioner Kolkata said that Cricket brings people together, connects countries, communities and makes them active. They look forward to welcoming the Indian team and supporters to England and Wales for the Cricket World Cup from May to July this year, he said.
He said that India will be a central part of making the cricket tournament a success. Hundreds of millions of people across the nation will watch the tournament. Tens of thousands plan cricket holidays to the UK to see every wicket, six and over. From now until the final ball is bowled, they will work with partners across India to make the tournament a success and further strengthen UK-India ties. This includes promotion of key visa guidance to ensure those who wish to travel apply for their visa as early as possible, or use the priority services if needed.
The UK will showcase the best the UK has to offer to those travelling to, or watching the Cricket World Cup from home. They will ensure that – whoever wins in July – this is a tournament which brings the UK and India closer together, said Bucknell.
