UP Bride killed for not meeting the dowry requirement. The groom wanted 3 lakh cash and a TVS Apache motorcycle. The husband, father-in-law, mother-in-law, and brother were arrested after her death.
Indian Legal system has banned the exchange of dowry in any case and anyone having such intentions can be punished under the Dowry Prohibition Act of 1969. The law clearly states that dowry exchange should be eliminated from the Indian Marriage.
However, chilling news came from UP where a Groom killed her wife because of failing to meet the dowry demands. A 24-year-old girl was killed as her parents did not meet their demands of 3 lakhs in cash and a TVS Apache bike. She was constantly harassed by her in-laws for not being able to meet their needs.
The case has been filed against Sundar Kumar (Husband), Parents, Preetam, and Sumrati, and Brother Anil Kumar. They have been charged with section 80 (Dowry death), and section 85 (Cruelty against women in domestic relationships). Investigation is underway and the husband will be prosecuted.
As per the narration from the victim's family, it was found that Meena was married to Sundar who was a laborer and they married off 2 years ago. She moved to her inlaws in Hasanpur. Meena’s father, a farmer claimed "She had been staying with us since Raksha Bandhan. On Sunday, her husband came to take her back citing his mother's illness. After reaching her husband's place, Meena called us and said her mother-in-law was fine and that Sundar lied. She also said Sundar was demanding bike money. Later in the night, we were informed that she died”
Her parents also claimed that as they rushed to the place, they found the cops to be there. They found some marks on the neck and head.
