US-Based Percussionist & His Team Enthrall Kolkata Audience with Old Bengali Numbers

Lights, Sound, Music…….and the young, energetic members of MuSix immediately got going. And so did the quality and vibrant audience. Because it was not just a musical extravaganza, it was a musical rendezvous to ring in the Bengali New Year. The event, aptly called ‘A Musical Rendezvous: Chiro Nutoner Dilo Daak’, at the Jamini Roy Gallery of ICCR, Kolkata on April 17, kept the audience engulfed for three hours. Three hours looked so short and flying away in no time…….no wonder, because three members of MuSix – US-based musician Pt Aditya Narayan Banerjee (Tabla), Koustav Rana Sarkar (music director), Sandip Banerjee (Sitar) are holders of Limca Book of World Records, in their own rights, for performing 36 hours at a stretch, with another outstanding musician – Pt Ramesh Narayan.  Aditya Narayan Banerjee also has the rare distinction of being the only Indian percussionist to have performed at the White House. Other musicians- Sangeeta Das (vocal artist), Amitaditya Sanyal (vocal artist), Rana Sarkar (keyboard), Ashok Ghosh (electronics pad), Gautam De (guitar) equally engrossed the audience, comprising connoisseurs of good music from different walks of life- business, art and culture, corporate executives and so on, taking them on a time travel, bringing back fond memories of the golden era of Bengali music.

CalCallingTV, the first stand-alone YouTube channel born out of Kolkata, also took this opportunity in recognizing and awarding a few outstanding contributors who have been promoting and patronizing art & culture in more ways than one. The recipients included Gautam De, regional director, ICCR, Kolkata, Dr Kuldeep Maity, Managing Director, Village Financial Services, Subhojit Roy, image consultant, Pt Tarun Bhattacharya, santoor maestro, Chhanda Chakraborty, entrepreneur.
