US Parliamentarians Celebrate Diwali, as President Trump Extends his Diwali Wishes from White House

US Parliamentarians Celebrate Diwali, as President Trump Extends his Diwali Wishes from White House

The US lawmakers celebrated Diwali with many engagements this time, as Indian-Origin legislators Kamala Harris, Raja Krishnamoorthi, Pramila Jayapal, Ami Bera and Ro Khanna celebrated Diwali, defining the festival reminds one to welcome positivity in their lives. 

The lawmakers observed Diwali on Friday, two days ahead of the Festival of Lights actually being celebrated in India. Meanwhile, President Trump celebrated Diwali on Thursday in his Oval Office with a small group of Indian Americans.

Wishing everyone a very Happy Diwali, Indian American Congresswoman, Kamala Harris said, “May the Festival of Lights inspire us to lift our communities up from the darkness, live with hope away from despair and stand for, what is right. I hope everyone celebrating Diwali also gets the chance to spend some good and positive time with their loved ones”.

While, lawmaker Raja Krishnamoorthi said, Diwali is a reflection on the Triumph of Light over Darkness and Good over Evil.

Lawmaker Pramila Jayapal said, “Diwali reminds us that goodness, duty, righteousness must always prevail. As we celebrate the festival of Lights, let us also pledge to bring hope and light to our work and our world”.

She also added, “Let us also continue to oppose which is wrong and unjust including the forces of hate, racism that seeks to divide and distract us. And let us call out injustice and inequality wherever it occurs, whether on the borders of our land or in the lands of our birth”.

Ami Bera, another Indian American Legislator said he is proud to celebrate this joyous time of reflection and love with his Congressional Asian Pacific American Caucus colleagues.

While, Indian-American Congressman Ro Khanna said, “Diwali is all about reflecting on our lives, learning from our mistakes, and growing in the coming year”.

US President Donald Trump celebrated Diwali and later he along with his wife Melania Trump extended their Diwali wishes to everyone celebrating the festival of lights around the world.

Donald Trump wrote on Twitter, “As Diwali commences, Melania and I wish those, who are observing the Festival of Lights a blessed and happy celebration! Happy Diwali”.


Other US Parliamentarians too wished Diwali to everyone, as Congresswoman Judy Chu said “Diwali is symbolic to the triumph of light over darkness, knowledge over ignorance, and good over evil. This is also the lessons, which all Americans should appreciate and demonstrate, regardless of background or religion”.

Lawmaker Grace Meng said, Diwali also as a holiday is “a joyous time when family and friends come together to commemorate the triumph of good over evil, light over darkness and knowledge over ignorance”.

Congressman Gil Cisneros said, “Diwali is a celebration of the victory of good over evil, which reminds everyone to welcome light and positivity in their lives”.

Other Legislators who celebrated the festival the lights also include Ted Lieu, Jacky Rosen, Andy Kim, Scott Peters, TJ Cox, Linda Sanchez, and Katie Porter.

Prime Minister of Australia Scott Morrison also extended his Diwali greetings, underlying the values and beliefs associated with the festival on Twitter.
