US President Donald Trump Prepares for His Maiden Visit to India

On Monday, the White House has formally announced that US President Donald Trump along with America’s First Lady Melania Trump will visit India on February 24-25. This is going to be Trump’s first visit to India as President of the United States and also rare solo bilateral visits along with the First Lady.
In the official release, White House said, “The President and The First Lady will travel to New Delhi and Ahmedabad, which is in Prime Minister Modi’s home state of Gujarat and played such an important role in Mahatma Gandhi’s life and leadership of the Indian independence movement”.
The statement also added that during a phone call over the weekend, President Trump agreed to the invite by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, “further strengthen the United States-India strategic partnership and highlight the strong and enduring bonds between the American and Indian people.”
White House has made no mention of America’s first couples, widely expected stopover at the Taj Mahal, which is an enduring symbol of love and togetherness. Taj Mahal was so appealing to Trump in the past that he named one of his properties Trump Taj Mahal in Atlantic City, after the monument.
In the statement, White House has confirmed that the President would visit Ahmedabad, where there are plans to host a rousing “Kem Cho, Trump!” or Howdy Trump rally in return to the gesture of the Trump administration, which allowed the Howdy Modi event in Houston, which is regarded as the largest rally ever by a foreign leader on the soil of United States. The rally is being arranged keeping in mind Trump’s taste, who loves large adoring crowds.
The two leaders are also expected to inaugurate the Motera Stadium, which is going to be one of the world’s largest sports arenas with a capacity of 110,000 people at a time, though reports suggest it will be a race against time to complete the stadium by February 25.
There are plans for a walkthrough and informal talks at the backdrop of the Sabarmati waterfront, which is one of Modi’s signature achievements in his home state.
Beside all these both the countries are expected to sign a few trade deals and agreements, one such significant deal would be India’s purchase of US armaments, including a $2.6 billion naval helicopter deal and a $2 billion NASAMS, air defense system. India is also ramping up energy purchases from the US.
