US Warns Iran with Strong Sanctions

US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo recently threatened Iran!

US Warns Iran with Strong Sanctions

As the uncertainty over the meeting of North Korea’s Kim Jong-un and US President Donald Trump to discuss Nuclear and other issues, continues, US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo recently threatened Iran with a strong sanction if it doesn’t give up its nuclear ambitions prompting another discussion about US dictatorial attitude in the world stage.

Meanwhile, Pompeo’s Iranian counterpart said the United State is a prisoner of its own “failed policies” and therefore is facing its consequences. Iranian Foreign Minister Javed Zarif said, the US is “regressing to old habits” and therefore Iran is talking to other partners of the nuclear deal to find a mutual solution.

A few days ago the US pulled out of an International Nuclear deal with Iran and therefore these comments by the US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo is seen as very significant. Pompeo has threatened Iran that US is going to impose strongest sanctions against Iran this time if it did not accept US demands, which includes giving up its nuclear ambitions, stopping its ballistic missile program and to end its expansionist attitude.

He said, “The sting of sanctions will only grow more painful if the regime does not change course from the unacceptable and unproductive path it has chosen for itself and the people of Iran. These will be the strongest sanctions in history by the time we are done”.

The US actually wants to curb Iran’s growing influence in the Middle East and its position of supporting armed groups in Syria and Yemen. Therefore Pompeo also told Iran to withdraw its forces from Syria, where it is supporting President Bashar al-Assad's forces.

The diplomatic relationship between Iran and the US started to deteriorate since US President Donald Trump declared withdrawal from the agreement with Iran, a few days ago. The agreement was aimed at preventing Iran from developing a nuclear weapon. The agreement between the two countries was made in the year 2015.

According to the 2015 deal, Iran agreed to limit the size of its stock of enriched uranium. It also agreed not to produce plutonium, which is suitable for making a bomb. It claimed that its nuclear program is peaceful as it is verified IAEA. In return sanctions imposed by the UN, EU and US were lifted as this sanction had crippled the economy of Iran.

But this time the US is adamant as Mike Pompeo’s speech also reflects his calls to Iranian people to think and change the Iran regime with leaders like President Hassan Rouhani and Foreign Minister Mohammad Javed Zarif.

At the end of the day the Iranian people will get to make a choice about their leadership. If they make the decision quickly, that would be wonderful, if they choose not to do so we will stay hard at this until we achieve the outcomes I set forward”, he said.

Iran is the world’s largest producer of oil and the export of oil and gas is worth billions of dollars business every year. But with the present sanction on Iran, its GDP has fallen noticeably and the oil put has seen a drastic low in the past few weeks’ development.
