Veteran Filmmaker and Dadasaheb Phalke Awardee K Viswanath Passed away at 92

A prominent name not just in Telugu cinema but also in Tamil and Hindi films, he became the 48th recipient of the Dadasaheb Phalke award, the highest recognition in Indian cinema.

Renowned filmmaker and Dadasaheb Phalke awardee Kasinadhuni Viswanath died at the age of 92 years around Thursday midnight. He took his last breath at a private hospital here. The filmmaker was not well for some time and was suffering from age-related issues.

Former Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu, Film Director SS Rajamouli, Music Director MM Keeravani, Actor Chiranjeevi and other film stars pay last tribute to veteran film director Kalatapasvi K Viswanath in Hyderabad.

Viswanath, who started his journey as a sound artiste, directed award-winning films such as "Sankarabharanam", "Sagara Sangamam", "Swati Mutyam", "Saptapadi", "Kaamchor", "Sanjog" and "Jaag Utha Insaan" in his long career that included an equally successful stint in front of the camera.

Viswanath made his Bollywood debut with 1979 film Sargam, which was a remake of his own movie Siri Siri Muvva. Some of his other popular Hindi films include Kaamchor, Shubh Kaamna, Jaag Utha Insan, Sanjog, Eeshwar and Dhanwaan.

He was popular for his many collaborations with Rakesh Roshan in Bollywood. In an interview with IANS, Rakesh Roshan had said he learnt everything about filmmaking from Viswanath.

K Viswanath won five National Film Awards. He also has several Nandi Awards and Filmfare Awards to his credit. Viswanath was honoured with the Padma Shri in 1992 and the Dadasaheb Phalke Award in 2017.

His last directorial project was the 2010 Telugu film Subhapradam starring Allari Naresh and Manjari Phadnis.

He also acted in over two dozen films across Telugu and Tamil industries.
