Well settled Family to Singlehood, Why are Indian Men Fearing Marriage

There are close to 7,50,000 men in India out of which around 51 percent of the population are single. The remaining 49 percent have witnessed troubles when they were engaged to someone. While India is a developing nation, there are some unstructured laws and regulations that do not debate for men. These laws prohibit Indian men from defending themselves out of an unlawful action especially when there is a woman involved. As per a survey conducted on some male participants, the majority of them claimed that post-marriage dominance, high Alimony amounts, and improper laws for men were some of the reasons behind Indian men fearing marriage.

With oncoming cases of various alimony-related issues, Indian men have taken a back step when it comes to getting married. In recent cases, a cop from Bangalore has killed himself as his in-laws were causing mental harassment. Yet another case that came up and became one of the largest matters of protest is the death of an Engineer, Atul Subhash whose wife had demanded around 3 crores in Alimony. Not just this but the justice givers laughed at his situation and pressurised him to pay the sum amount.

These situations are creating immense panic among them, unmarried Indian men. Many men have claimed that the financial burden tends to increase after marriage as there are additional responsibilities. These are often not valued at times and are simply disregarded. While a sense of security is considerable, a direct burden on a single individual tends to drain them emotionally and socially. There are other factors such as commitment, compatibility, and cultural expectations that further prohibit Indian men and women from having marriage.

Divorce rates have also increased shedding insight into the rising challenges of Indian marriage. It is believed that one in every 100 marriages ends in divorce. The rising cases and challenges of post-marriage abuse and false harassment cases are turning men down to taking active steps toward building a life with a partner.

A professor from the American Board of Professional Psychology has claimed that lack of open communication and negative behavior are some of the common causes of a failed marriage and to avoid such instances, Indian men barre themselves from getting married. Marriage has become a social stigma for Indian men because of the mental agony caused to them and their families when there is a marital dispute.

The Indian men fearing marriage further cannot change their minds because of frequent news coming up from different parts of the country where men are the victims of financial pressure during and after an unsuccessful marriage. In India, the financial burden caused by divorces is quite high. Moreover, no defending laws can be presented ahead of a court to minimize the financial burden caused by Divorces on men.

Many male participants have also claimed that the rising harassment by wives is also creating mental harassment. Many of them have seen their friends or relatives facing such marital disputes when their wives are not willing to separate their ways but be a part of the constant torture and mental agony. This can be extremely traumatizing for the men especially those who are working.

Thus, it can be concluded that the primary reason behind Indian men fearing marriage is divorce and mental harassment caused during the divorce process. Moreover, improper civic laws towards men have created distinct fears that men cannot overcome.
