When Jesus Blesses a Shoe, It Gets Sold out in Minutes

The distinctive pair of white Nike Air Max 97s known as ‘Jesus Shoes’ are manufactured by a Brooklyn-based creative label MSCHF is the talk of the town. What makes it special and expensive is the holy water with which the shoe is filled, making it sold out in minutes.

The USP of the shoe is, it is sanctified or injected with holy water from the Jordan River. If you look at the shoe closely the river’s water can be seen floating in the sole.

There are other features of the shoe, which have the Bible verse Matthew 14:25 -- the passage describing Jesus walking on water -- at the side of the show along with a single blood drop, which represents the blood of Christ.

Some other religious features such as the frankincense-scented insoles, a crucifix is threaded through the laces and a red sole, which symbolizes the red shoes traditionally worn by past Popes. Last but not the least, when the shoe is religious, so its package is to be religious too. The shoebox also displays an angel and a seal resembling the official papal seal. So we can say the 3000$ shoe is a complete religious package.

Head of Commerce of MSCHF, Daniel Greenberg said, “We thought of that Arizona Iced Tea and Adidas collab, where they were selling shoes that [advertised] a beverage company that sells iced tea at bodegas. So we wanted to make a statement about how absurd collab culture has gotten”.

However, Greenberg said the company experimented with less than a dozen such pairs, as they didn’t have plans to create more. But, Gabriel Whaley, founder of the brand, has already hinted that there may be a ‘second coming’ in the future.

Despite of the sky-high price tag, 3000$ for a pair of shoe, it seems there were plenty of people who are willing to pay big price in order to elevate their shoe which is unique with a spiritual touch as it is evident when the shoes were sold out in mere minutes after being launched by Brooklyn-based Company MSCHF.

A few weeks ago, there was a news doing rounds that there is a collaboration between Adidas and Arizona Iced Tea, when asked about the information, Greenberg explained, “We wanted to make a statement about how absurd collab culture has gotten”.

In July this year, the two brands teamed up for a limited-edition sneaker design, which was then sold for only 99 cents at a New York bodega, which was a stunt that sparked a wave of interest, it then led to a stampede on the street, as people desperately tried to get their hands on the special less expensive pair of shoe.
