This Christmas season wouldn’t it be interesting to know which movie is the highest grossing Christmas movie of all time. Any guesses?  According to boxofficemojo.com, it is none other than ‘Home Alone.’ The movie starring Macaulay Culkin follows an eight-year-old troublemaker who has to save his home from two burglars. It was one of Macaulay’s best performances. The movie has achieved a lifetime gross of $285.8 million and the film doesn’t fail to capture the attention of movie buffs even now.

Falling next in line is Jim Carrey starrer ‘How the Grinch Stole Christmas’ which made $260 million at the box office. The movie is about the wicked Grinch with a heart which is “two sizes small.” He’s planning to ruin Christmas for everyone by stealing all their Christmas presents in the town of Whoville. His burglary is interrupted by a Who girl by the name of Cindy Lou, nonetheless, he decides to get back to his old ways. He gets back to his dwelling on the snowy Mount Crumpit while eagerly expecting to hear the cries of all the Whos’. Much to his surprise, he hears them singing a Christmas song. This animated flick aims to spread a message that Christmas is more than just feasting and presents.

What follows next is Dr. Seuss’ The Grinch. This movie grossed $239.3 million in just over a month.  This 3D computer-animated is based on the 1957 Dr. Seuss book ‘How the Grinch Stole Christmas!’ The film, however, received mixed reviews as critics say that it added nothing new to its original source material and the plot is basically the same as the first. English actor Benedict Cumberbatch actor lends his voice to the disgruntled Grinch. The flick sends a thought-provoking message though when it concludes with a toast “To kindness and love, the things we need most.”

‘The Polar Express’ stands at number four. The animated movie is about a young boy who embarks on a magical journey to the North Pole on the Polar Express. He learns about friendship, bravery and the spirit of Christmas in the interim. This movie grossed $310.6 million and it was made with a record-breaking budget of $165 million. To add to the credentials, it was also listed in the Guinness World Book of Records as the first all-digital capture film.
