Who is Behind the Popular Poem on Self Isolation and Was It Published in 1869?

A poem has caught the attention of many online readers during this ongoing epidemic. 

Many believe that the poem was written in 1869 and then republished during the Spanish Flu. 

The poem begins with these lines, 

“And the people stayed HOME. 

And read books, and listened and rested, 

And exercised, and made art, and played games, 

and learned new ways of being, and were still.” 

Now, after a little research, the poem was discovered in Oprah’s magazine. The author of these beautiful lines turned out to be a former teacher by the name of Kitty O’Meara. She had penned down these lines during the ongoing pandemic. 

The poem started trending on twitter with many sharing it with the idea that it was written way back in 1869 although this was far from the truth. 

It is pretty clear now that the real author of this beautiful poem is Kitty O’ Meara and she first published the captivating lines in her personal blog. 

Author and alternative medicine advocate Deepak Chopra was also fascinated by the poem's catchy lines. He went ahead and shared it on his Facebook page.
