Will Smith’s Bollywood Dream: From Hollywood Fame to Hindi Cinema Aspirations

Will Smith’s affection for Bollywood refuses to fade. During his recent visit to Dubai for the Middle East premiere of his upcoming series Pole to Pole with Will Smith, the Hollywood icon once again spoke candidly about his desire to collaborate with Indian cinema’s biggest names.

In a conversation with Gulf News, Smith reflected on his long-standing admiration for Hindi films and the towering personalities who define them. At the top of that list sits Shah Rukh Khan. With characteristic humour and sincerity, Smith admitted that he had already made his intentions clear to the superstar.

“I want Shah Rukh to put me in something,” Smith said, half-jokingly yet hopeful, acknowledging Khan’s unmatched influence in Bollywood. His remark instantly reignited speculation about a possible cross-cultural collaboration that fans on both sides of the globe have long imagined.

Shah Rukh Khan, meanwhile, remains deeply immersed in his current project King, directed by Siddharth Anand. The film, which also features Suhana Khan and Deepika Padukone, is expected to hit theatres later this year, keeping the superstar firmly occupied.

Smith also revisited his earlier attempts to enter the Bollywood ecosystem, revealing that discussions with Salman Khan and Amitabh Bachchan once showed promise but never reached fruition. He recalled informal exchanges, creative brainstorming, and even playful banter with Bachchan over screen titles.

“I was trying to get into something with Big B,” Smith shared, adding that Bachchan jokingly suggested he could be “Big W.” Despite mutual enthusiasm and respect, Smith acknowledged that the ideas simply failed to crystallise into a finished film.

While his Bollywood ambitions remain unfulfilled for now, Smith shows no signs of slowing down creatively. He is preparing for the global release of Pole to Pole with Will Smith, a National Geographic series that chronicles a gruelling 100-day journey filled with extreme physical feats across diverse terrains and climates.

Scheduled to premiere on January 13, the series highlights a different side of the actor, one driven by endurance, curiosity, and personal challenge. Yet, even as Smith scales mountains and tests his limits, his fascination with Bollywood storytelling continues to linger.

For fans, the possibility of seeing Will Smith in a Hindi film remains an alluring “what if”, one that, given his persistence, may someday turn into reality.
