William and Harry Unveil Statue of Lady Diana as a Legacy to Their Mother
William and Harry unveiled a statue of their mother Lady Diana in Kensington Palace’s Sunken Garden which has been one of her favourite spots.
William and Harry unveiled a statue of their mother Lady Diana in Kensington Palace’s Sunken Garden which has been one of her favourite spots. The event would’ve been Lady Diana’s 60th birthday.
The brothers walked out together into the Sunken Garden and pulled a green cloth that covered the statue.
The statue shows Lady Diana around three children while holding the hand of a young girl.
The brothers were seen for the first time since the Duke of Edinburgh’s funeral in April.
“We remember her love, strength, and character-- qualities that made her a force for good around the world, changing countless lives for the better,” William and Harry said in a joint statement.
“Every day, we wish she were still with us, and our hope is that this statue will be seen forever as a symbol of her life and legacy,” the statement continued.

This time the royal event was pared-down. There were just a few attendees; Prince William, Prince Harry, Diana's two sisters, her brother, and members of the statue committee.
Harry was seen having a deep conversation with his two aunts and uncle.
The brothers didn’t show signs of any tension and were seen sharing light-hearted conversations on a day that honoured their late mother.
Ian Rank-Broadley is the creator of the statue and he has been long associated with the royals. He graduated from the Slade School of Fine Art and won numerous contests such as the Royal Mint competition for a new effigy of the Queen for all British coinage in 1997. He went on to win the mint’s design contests for the Queen Mother Centennial crown coin in 1998, and Queen's Golden Jubilee crown coin and medal in 2001.
