With New DTH Rules in Place, This is How You Can Choose Your Channels

As the deadline for the operators for implementing the new Telecom Regulatory Authority of India’s (TRAI) regulation is over, the consumer can now freely choose the channels of their choice. As per the new regulation, the consumers can migrate to plans of their choice and can pay only for the channels they have chosen.

Under the new framework for broadcasting and cable services, the new DTH rules, which has come into effect, the consumers can now go to their respective DTH operators by visiting their website or nearest dealers office to select the channels of their preference. The DTH operators are also offering customized packages.

The DTH providers in India, which includes Tata Sky, Dish TV, Airtel Digital TV, Videocon D2h, Hathway and others, have already declared their channel prices under the new TRAI rules. Apart from all these arrangements, TRAI also has launched a Channel Selector Application, which can help every single consumer in his or her choosing process including the monthly rental of each channel.

The consumer can choose free to air channels, pay channels or any combination of their choice. The base price without any paid channel is going to cost only 130 Rupees and with taxes, it is 153.40 Rupees. But if a consumer adds any paid channels, they have to pay additionally to the amount specified for each paid channels.

Tata Sky

If you are a Tata Sky Subscriber, you can start selecting channel either by going to the company website or by visiting any nearby Tata Sky dealer, who can help you in migrating to the new packs.

Tata Sky has also specifically enlisted all the free to air channels in one bouquet called FTA Basic Pack. Tata Sky has also listed all the other channels with their respective prices, which the consumer can take as al-a-carte. Channels under the genres of Hindi Entertainment, Hindi Movies, Hindi News, Knowledge & Lifestyle, Music and others are provided under the a-la-carte basis.

Tata Sky has also informed all its subscribers that their existing long duration packs will be converted into monthly packs from the start of February and the applicable balance amount will be credited to the customers Tata Sky Account.

For the choosing process and all other formalities including the payment, the subscriber has to log in to the website using the credentials such as VC number or registered mobile number before being able to make the changes.

Dish TV 

Dish TV was among the first DTH operators to publicize the listing of channels by displaying a comprehensive list of channels with their respective price on its website. The operator has also enlisted the channels on its network on the basis of genres like Hindi Entertainment, Hindi Movies, Hindi News, Knowledge & Lifestyle, Music and others.

Dish TV also has highlighted different packs on its website for the clarity of its consumers, for example, Hindi HD Premium, Hindi HD Value and Telugu Value from Star India. Times HD, Turner Family Pack and Turner Kids Pack from Turner International and Happy India 31, Happy India Platinum and Happy India HD from Sony Pictures Networks.

If you are a subscriber of Dish TV, for choosing your channels, first you have to visit the Dish TV website or visit a nearby Dish TV dealer for the selection purposes. If you want to make the selection using its website, you have to login in to the website using your mobile number or Viewing Card number and select channels of your preference.

Videocon D2h

D2h has introduced a dedicated link for its subscribers to create their own pack and pay for what they will watch. They have displayed the list of channels along with their prices. In order to make any changes or selection of the channels, the users must have to use their login credentials, which may be one’s VC number or Mobile number.

Videocon D2h has also segregated all the channels under on the basis of genres and offered a selection from broadcaster bouquets, a-la-carte and d2h combo packs to the consumer.

Airtel Digital TV 

Like all the prominent DTH operators Airtel too has detailed its Free to Air Basic pack that will be available with all its subscribers along with the free-to-air channels. Apart from this Airtel has listed the prices of DRPs and a-la-carte differently.

The make the selection of channels and customize one’s pack, the users have to log in to the website with their subscriber credentials.

Hathway new plans and packs

In order to make the selection, the Hathway subscribers have to visit the company website first, enter login details. Once successfully logged in, the users will have the options to choose from hatchway bouquets, broadcaster bouquets or the a-la-carte options.

Once the subscriber selected the channels of their choice and reviewed the selection in the cart, he or she can proceed to checkout for payment completion.

The new regulation is a boon for the TV consumers, as it empowers one to select the channels of your choice and no operator can now entrust any channels on to you. The consumer can now add and remove channels at any given point of time. So the power of TV viewing is now in your hands.
