Woman in Pakistan Mobbed as Locals Mistake The Text on Her Kurta as Quran Verses

A woman in Lahore was mobbed as she was wearing a kurta with Arabic prints on it. People allegedly mistook the prints as verses from the Quran.

The lady had gone shopping with her husband.

Circulating videos show the woman sitting in a restaurant while the mob can be heard passing numerous comments at her and getting angry.

The woman appears to be in extreme fear while her husband can be seen speaking to someone on his cellphone.

In another video she is seen with her hands on her face. She’s also seen taking refuge behind her husband.

A cop by the name of Syeda Shehrbano Naqvi handled the situation efficiently. She pacified the mob and immediately  led the woman away, from the spot, to the police station.

“The woman had gone for shopping with her husband. She had worn a kurta that had some words written on it. When some people saw it they asked her to remove the kurta. There was a confusion,” Ms Naqvi said.

The punjab police has recommended the lady cop’s name for the highest gallantry award for law enforcement in Pakistan.

The Punjab Police wrote on their official X account, “ASP Syeda Shehrbano Naqvi, the brave SDPO of Gulbarg Lahore, put her life in danger to rescue a woman from a violent crowd. For this heroic deed, the Punjab Police has recommended her name for the prestigious Quaid-e-Azam Police Medal (QPM), the highest gallantry award for law enforcement in Pakistan.” ~ IG Punjab Dr. Usman Anwar

After the lady was taken to the police station she apologized and admitted that she had no intention of hurting anyone’s sentiments.

“I had no intentions of insulting anyone's religious sentiments. I bought the kurta just because it had good design,” the woman said.

The police authority’s timely response is worthy of praise, as otherwise the woman’s life would have been in serious danger. A large number of online users have supported the woman. According to them, she was clearly not at fault and instead had to apologize for wearing a dress featuring Arabic calligraphy.
