Women from Ghana Arrested at Bengaluru Airport with 3.8KG of Cocaine

In yet another case, a woman was arrested for allegedly smuggling Cocaine weighing 3.8 KG. The woman was travelling from Ghana and arrived at Kempegowda International Airport when the customs stopped her and during the interrogation, she confessed to carrying cocaine from Ghana.

The accused was identified as Jennifer Abbe arrived from Doha to Bangalore and was travelling from Ghana. Based on a tip the DRI arrested the women in Bangalore and confiscated close to 3.8 KG of cocaine. The drug was seized from the woman and she was arrested. Moreover, an investigation is also being carried out to identify if there is any bigger syndicate associated with the smuggling.

A few days ago two foreign nationals were arrested at Bengaluru Airport for allegedly trying to smuggle 37 KG of Cocaine. The value of the drug was close to 275 crore and is also considered one of the biggest smuggling that Bengaluru airport has seen.

Bangalore has witnessed a steep rise in smuggling as last month a woman was arrested for possession of MDMA worth 6 lakhs. The same month, Bangalore customs seized high-value Marijuana worth 23 lakh. Popular actress, Ranya Rao was also arrested from Bangalore airport for allegedly smuggling gold.

Ranya Rao is one of the most popular personalities who is the daughter of a Senior police official and often used the her father’s power to access VIP boarding. He also made 35 trips to Dubai in a single month further growing suspicion. Police have also claimed that she might be operating a drug syndicate.

Drug smuggling has increased over the period where people are directly pointing towards the administration. In the past month, more than 5 seizures have been done. Bengaluru airport has often been in the news with incidents recorded of smuggling different types of drugs.

In a recent survey conducted by the Narcotics Control Bureau, drugs worth 11 crores have been seized in the past 5 years which is quite high. Despite strong and independent control of narcotics and drugs, administration and officials are unable to intercept the people who are carrying illicit drugs to India.

While India follows stringent laws for the consumption and sale of drugs, however, the consumption level has increased over the period, and the majority of the drugs are being transported through foreign countries. Generally, people are hired to supply drugs to different parts of the world and a percentage of the share is given to the carriers.
