The World Cup 2018 (Russia) fever will be escalating to its optimum peak from today onwards, as the quarter finals round of the biggest sporting event on this planet resumes.

Just 8 teams remain in the quest of being a crowned champion. However, quite shockingly this time, many stalwarts of this tournament like Argentina, Spain, Portugal, and Mexico have been eliminated in the Round of 16. Moreover, the group stage witnessed the defending champions Germany bow out for the first time ever in their illustrious history.


Among the favorites to lift the trophy, only Brazil, France, Uruguay and England remain. The other teams to have qualified unexpectedly are Russia, Sweden, and Croatia.


Quarter Final Fixtures


  1. Uruguay v France

Match Details - 6th July -  (Friday) - 17:00 Local Time, Venue - Nizhny Novgorod Stadium


With Edinson Cavani, the man who plays for French club Paris Saint Germain, doubtful to start the game due to a calf injury against France, the Latin American club with the best defense this year are pretty concerned about their chances of winning. Cavani scored a brace in the last game against Portugal to ensure a 2-1 victory.

On the other hand, France will be banking on their teenage star Kylian Mbappe, who stole the show against Argentina, by scoring two goals that resulted in France winning the game 4-3.


    2. Brazil v Belgium

Match Details - 6th July -  (Friday) - 21:00 Local Time, Venue - Kazan Arena


Brazil have yet to show their best form in this tournament, although they are undefeated and have a good defensive record till the last game, when they defeated Mexico by 2-0. They will be facing the golden generation of Belgian football, who have statistically conceded 12 goals in the entire tournament. Roberto Martinez's men edged past Japan in dying minutes of the match to manage a 3-2 victory.

So this fixture promises to be a thrilling one, where both the teams have to prove their brilliance.


    3. Sweden v England

Match Details - 7th July -  (Saturday) - 18:00 Local Time, Venue - Samara Arena


England will be up against Sweden. The Swedes are this time's biggest underdogs who have managed to surprise everyone, by qualifying into the quarters without their talisman Zlatan Ibrahimovic. They have kept three clean sheets in the four games that they've played, which might be a worry for Southgate's men.

England, however, are the firm favorites to win this match, with Harry Kane and Co. in their best form.


     4. Russia v Croatia

Match Details - 7th July -  (Saturday) - 21:00 Local Time, Venue - Fisht Stadium


Croatia are being acclaimed as the most organized team in this World Cup, with a solid defense and their star-studded midfield comprising of Luka Modric and Ivan Rakitic. They defeated Denmark in their last game with a narrow margin of 1-0.

The hosts, Russia, have had a dream run starting with a thumping 5-0 victory over Saudi Arabia and eliminating Spain on penalties in their last match.
