Zoho CEO Urges Caution after Paragliding Tragedy: A Call for Safer Adventure Sports

Sridhar Vembu, CEO of Zoho Corporation, has voiced his concerns about the dangers of paragliding following the heartbreaking death of Jayesh Ram, a 27-year-old entrepreneur from Tamil Nadu. Jayesh, the son of Vembu’s close friends Cibi Anand and Priya, tragically lost his life in a paragliding accident in Kullu, Himachal Pradesh. Vembu, deeply moved by the loss, shared a poignant tribute and emphasized the urgent need for better safety measures in adventure spots.
An Emotional Farewell
After attending Jayesh’s funeral, Vembu took to social media platform X to express his grief and highlight the perils of unregulated adventure activities. “Yesterday, I had the unfortunate duty to attend the funeral of Jayesh Ram,” Vembu wrote. “He was a vibrant young man and the beloved son of my dear friends. The paragliding accident that claimed his life is a harsh reminder of the risks associated with such activities.”
Jayesh’s accident occurred when his paraglider collided with another in mid-air, resulting in his untimely demise and leaving his pilot severely injured.  This tragic incident underscores the growing need for stringent regulations and enhanced safety protocols in adventure tourism hotspots like Kullu and Goa, Vembu argued. 
A Promising Life Cut Short
Jayesh Ram was no ordinary young man. He was the founder of Tools Hub, a rapidly expanding hardware retail franchise that had earned the admiration of both customers and employees. Vembu shared fond memories of Jayesh’s entrepreneurial journey, recalling how his father, Anand, played a key role in shaping the venture’s vision. The brand name “Karuvi” was suggested from a collaboration among close friends and business associates. 

Vembu’s words painted a picture of a charismatic and compassionate leader. “Jayesh was a dashing young entrepreneur who treated his employees kindly and respectfully. His passion and determination were truly inspiring,” he noted.
The Perils of Uncalculated Risks
As someone who embraces risk-taking in business, Vembu offered a sobering perspective on the distinction between calculated and reckless risks. “Jayesh was a risk-taker, much like myself,” he said. “But even at his age, I evaluated risks carefully. Paragliding in Kullu is notoriously accident-prone—a risk I would have avoided.”

Through this reflection, Vembu urged young people, especially men, to exercise caution and prioritize safety over high-octane pursuits. “I hope this tragic loss serves as a lesson to others. Not all risks are worth taking,” he added.
The Zoho CEO concluded his heartfelt message with an appeal to authorities to improve oversight in the adventure sports industry. “We cannot afford to lose more lives to foreseeable hazards. Stronger regulations and enforcement are crucial to ensure safety,” he emphasized.
