An Indian Origin Family Decides to Stay Back in Ukraine

A family of Indian origin in Kyiv has decided not to leave Ukraine amidst the damage, chaos, and loss of life.

Kuldeep Kumar is a businessman and has been a resident of Ukraine for the past twenty-six years. He is married to a Ukrainian woman Oksana and has two children Angelica and Pranav.

They have equipped themselves with pistols and rifles in event of any danger to their lives as a result of the war.

When Kuldeep decided to leave his children in India due to the war, it was his kids who asked him, “If I were living in India and a war had started, would I leave my homeland and rush somewhere?”

“My kids didn’t want to leave their matrabhoomi, so I backed them”, Kumar added.

Kuldeep expressed that there should be negotiation and dialogue between the involved countries and the war must come to an end.

Kuldeep’s desire is that there shouldn't be a loss of life either from Ukraine or from Russia. They want peace and not war.

According to Kuldeep, there are 2.5 million people in Kyiv. Some people will die and some will live. What’s more worrying is the aftermath of the war and the consequences it will have on the lives of people in the years to come.

For now, Kuldeep’s family believes in following the motto: “Live here, stay here and die here.”
