Google One Makes Storage More Affordable

Google introduces new cloud storage plans with Google One, but still cannot match up with Amazon

Google One Makes Storage More Affordable

Google, known for its innovation, rebranded its online storage subscription program to Google One and lowered prices. The company has made substantial changes to the user interface of Gmail last month, after which the tech leader gave an impressive makeover to Google Drive last week. Now the company is refurbishing its cloud storage platform and adding new subscription plans in an effort to streamline the service. Google has renamed its Google Drive storage plans as Google One and added plans that offer additional cloud storage space to the users at marginally low costs.

According to the new storage plans, Google One offers storage space ranging between 100 GB to 30 TB. As part of the upgrade, the tech giant has reduced the price of 2 TB storage plan from $19.99 per month to $9.99 per month and added a 200 GB cloud storage plan for $2.99 per month. Additionally, the company has also dropped its 1 TB pack which was priced at $9.99 per month.

Amazon still has the best deal for 1 TB storage. So consumers looking for just 1 TB of storage at the lowest price might want to shop with Amazon, which offers it for $59.99 annually. That's lower than the $99 annual pricing from Dropbox and Microsoft OneDrive. Neither Apple's iCloud nor Google offer just 1 TB of storage, rather a robust 2 TB.

As per a Google blog post, Google One's storage plans will be sharable within a family and users will be able to add up to five family members to their selected plan. Furthermore, every family member included in the plan will get their own private storage space on Google One.

Users of Google Drive's online backup program will still go to drive.google.com to access their files. If they use under 15 GB, Google Drive is still free. The subscription offering, for heavier users, will be called One. Google said the new One subscription accounts now come with access to customer support via email and phone.

"You'll gain access to extras from other Google products, like credits on Google Play or deals on select hotels found in Google Search. And we'll be adding more benefits over time," Vice President of Google One Pavni Diwani wrote in a blog post.

All users of paid Google Drive storage plans will be upgraded to Google One automatically. However, this change will not affect G Suite business customers. The company will notify the users about the upgrade via an email, following which they will be able to manage their storage plans and benefits.

According to Google, it will be rolling out the update to users in the United States in the coming months following which the update will be made available globally, so stay updated...
