IGTV Launched by Instagram Will Give Competition to YouTube in Long Video Category

From the owners of Facebook, the no. 1 snap app of the age has recently rolled out a separate app for long videos. In an event yesterday, in San Francisco IGTV was launched. As per e-marketers, IGTV is all set to create a competitive market for YouTube videos, and is going to change the shape of the long-running visuals.

Gone are the days when kids used to stay glued to their TV. Time is changing, technology is getting smarter, viewers’ tastes are redefining. Instagram chief executive Kevin Systrom said in last night’s event that at present teens watch 40% less television than they used to, five years ago. And it is a truth, the young generation finds more relevance in online videos, Netflix series or Amazon exclusives. And it is here, the IGTV jumps in!

IGTV will feature videos from internet celebrities, artists, and pets who have over 10 million followers. As an IGTV user you can enjoy videos from all the celebrities you follow, and others you may like.

The app states in its description:

“IGTV is different from your typical video experience. It’s built for how you actually use your phone, so videos are full screen and vertical. And IGTV videos aren’t limited to one minute, which means you can see more of your favorite content.”

The app already has over 10,000 downloads and has been rated 4.4 on Google Play Store.

Reviews are positive as of now and loaded with suggestions:

“Great concept, I love the idea of it being mobile focused and only allowing vertical video, at least for now (if you allow landscape, that will become the default.) Main thing I'd like to see is background play ala YouTube Red/Premium so that creators can do long form podcast style uploads and we can listen when driving and the like. Keep it up, I think this could give YouTube a run for its money.”

“It's ok for the first iteration, but the app itself really needs customization like option to change the double tap to rewind time, maybe even swipe to seek. It really needs a dashboard. For a video apps its really uncomfortable to press a single back key to quit the app. Also not forget to mention a resolution options i guess?”

IGTV login process is simple and easy, it will accept the same login credentials as your Instagram account.

Although IGTV hasn’t yet made any advertisement deals, it will have them in no time, predicts a reputed research firm. Endorsement deals with stars will also follow, as per market speculations.
