Japan's Daiki Hashimoto won the men's gold medal at the Tokyo Olympics 2020. Xiao Ruoteng of China won silver and bronze went to Nikita Nagornyy of Russia. China's Xiao Ruoteng won a silver medal and Russia's Nicita Nagornyy won a bronze medal. Hashimoto's 19-year-old victory confirms that the men's Olympic championship title is still in place despite the absence of two-time defending champion Kohei Uchimura in this year's competition.
- 73 kgs men lifting weights: China's Shi Zhiyong wins gold
Shi Zhiyong of China broke his world record to win men's weightlifting at the Tokyo Olympics 2020 and won a gold medal in the second consecutive Games. Shi lifted a total of 364 kilograms to break his world record by one kilogram and won gold in the second consecutive Olympics. There was no gold medal competition as runner-up Julio Mayora of Venezuela lifted 19kg below. Confirmed with silver, Mayora added to her success with an unsuccessful attempt to break the 198kg Shi record of clean and deceptive, and then signed the competition by returning to the stage.
