‘Joker’ Teaser Trailer Stabs Us Hard, Laughs at the Brutal World, Encore Joaquin Phoenix!

For the first time ever, a full-length feature film is being created on a prominent DC comic book villain, who has been projected ever since as a badass firebrand, throwing challenges at superhero Batman continuously. ‘Joker’ dives into the mind of a commoner, a loner, a ‘freak’ and tracks down his journey to becoming the rogue Joker; the brutal, hypocrite world has always despised.

 

‘Joker’ takes us back to the ’80s, inside the life of an apparently lonely middle-aged man, who plays a clown for a living. And while trying to be funny to the world, he’s bullied by kids, gets beaten up on streets, in the subway. He tries to find resort in his mom’s company, keeps in mind that he must always “smile” no matter what and seems to be lovestruck by a girl.

 

 

But this constant abuse and maltreatment from the cruel world grow in him infinite pain. And he nurtures this pain deep within, with care to become Joker, who can hurt and kill putting on a “happy face”.

 

‘Joker’ is a psychological thriller that thrives on the apparent supervillain’s background tale, different from the comic book. Unlike the Joker who used to be a lab assistant and turned into a green-haired, red nose Clown of Crime due to a lab explosion, the representation of the Joker’s character in this very film by director Todd Phillips, is more intense, emotional and grievous.

 Joaquin Phoenix, who is featuring in the title role, promises an outstanding performance, judging by the trailer. Although not in a major role, but a reference of Batman aka Bruce Wayne’s reference would be present in the film, played by child actor Dante Pereira-Olson. Other cast members include veteran actor Robert De Niro, Zazie Beetz, Marc Maron, Douglas Hodge, Brett Cullen among others.

 

In association with Bron Studios, Village Roadshow Pictures, Sikelia Productions and DC Films, ‘Joker’ is the first in the series to be made out of DC Extended Universe. Todd Phillips himself and actor Bradley Cooper are on the producers’ couch, along with others.

 

But the question that keeps ringing in the mind, what is ‘Joker’? A crime thriller…? Or a tragedy wrapped under mockery? Well, quoting Shakespeare I’ll imply, “Tragedy is a comedy misunderstood.” (Dig deeper and you’ll fathom).
