56-Year-Old Arrested for Sending 13 Mail Bombs to High Profiles Including Obama and Clinton

The man behind the recent mail bombs sent to 13 high profile figures of United States including former President Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton is arrested. On the day of his arrest, the law enforcement found three more devices in Florida, California and New York. 56-year-old Cesar Sayoc is from Florida and has a long criminal record, who has put enforcement officials on high alert for the past five days after the discovery of mail bombs across the country.

All the mail bombs were sent to people who have criticized US President Donald Trump. Sayoc is now charged with transporting explosives across state lines, illegally mailing explosives, threatening former presidents and others, threatening interstate communications and assaulting federal officials and if convicted, he could face decades in prison.

US President Donald Trump appreciated the efforts of law enforcement that arrested the man from Florida. Trump said the suspected mail bombs are “terrorizing acts” and added, “We will prosecute them, him, her, whoever it may be, to the fullest extent of the law. We must never allow political violence to take root in America and I'm committed to doing everything in my power as president to stop it and stop it now”.

FBI Director Christopher Wray confirmed that the recovered 13 explosive devices are IEDs, improvised explosive devices. Though Wray didn’t say in details whether the devices could have detonated, saying that investigators are “still trying to determine whether or not they were functional. He also added, that “These are not hoax devices” thereby confirming that they contain potential explosive material.

Christopher Wray also said how the investigators were able to trace Sayoc after getting a fingerprint on an envelope containing a bomb sent to Rep. Maxine Waters, D-Calif and that matched the sample previously taken from him during an arrest in Florida for an earlier case.

Sayoc used dramatic style to threaten his targets, as it has been found inside the packages sent to three high profile targets former President Barack Obama, former CIA director John Brennan and Waters. The picture of each of these persons was marked with red “X” marks on them. When asked why Sayoc allegedly targeted Democrats, Wray said, “it appears to be a partisan, but that would be determined by the facts as the case goes forward”.

Sayoc’s track record said he has been a regular offender from the age of 29 years. He has charges of larceny, grand theft and fraud. In the year 2002, he was arrested by Miami police for a bomb threat. According to the police records, Sayoc called Power Company, Florida Power and Light and threatened to blow them up saying, “It would be worse than September 11th”.
