Charulata Patel, the 87 Year Old Cricket Fan is the New Internet Sensation

Enthusiasm, motivation and fandom know no age, and Charulata Patel is the most brilliant example of all of that, at the moment!

Ms Patel at 87, is of course tremendously young at heart and high on energy. She, from time to time kept drawing all the limelight during the Tuesday India vs Bangladesh ICC World Cup match as the cameras loved focusing her.

She could be seen exuberantly cheering for the Indian team and also occasionally blowing a trumpet.

Match commentator and former Indian cricket captain Sourav Ganguly did notice her, the white-haired lady in a brown sweater, with a red bindi on forehead and cheeks gleaming with joy and tri-colour paint.

Although she had broken the age bar way back, she broke the internet recently as Indian captain Virat Kohli went straight up to her, exchanged a few words and shared the moments on his personal social profiles.

Virat wrote on his Instagram account, “Also would like to thank all our fans for all the love and support and especially Charulata Patel ji. She's 87 and probably one of the most passionate and dedicated fans I've ever seen. Age is just a number, passion takes you leaps and bounds. There was only love and blessings for the whole team in her eyes. What an inspiration. With her blessings, on to the next one.”

Charulata Patil has also shared that she has been a witness to a historic moment for Indian sports, “When Kapil paaji won the World Cup in 1983, I was there as well. Whenever Indian cricketers come over (to England) to play, I pray for them. I am a big believer of Lord Ganesh and I have full faith that India will win. I bless the players, I hope they take care, do well and give us a chance to win,”.

The next ICC Cricket World Cup match for India is scheduled against Sri Lanka, on Saturday, 3 pm onwards. And we do wish to get more such high-spirited glimpses of Charulata Patel… mindblowing indeed!
