Chinese Singer Receives Flak for Intentionally Infecting Herself with The Coronavirus

Chinese singer and songwriter Jane Zhang is receiving flak for infecting herself with coronavirus.

Jane is the number one female singer in Mainland China. She ranked 43rd on the 2011 Forbes China Celebrities List.

She expressed in Weibo that she deliberately visited the homes of ‘sheep’ a term used for virus carriers in China with the intention of contracting the infection.

The singer infected herself with the virus because she wanted to prepare herself for a New Year’s Eve concert which is being held in December.

She wanted to prevent herself from being at risk from the infection during the concert.

“I was concerned that my condition during the New Year's Eve performance would be affected, so I met a group of people who have tested positive since I currently have time to recover from the virus,” she wrote.

After Jane Zhang contracted the virus she began having symptoms like fever, sore throat, and body aches. She slept while she had these symptoms and to her good luck the symptoms lasted only a day.

“After sleeping for a day and a night, all my symptoms disappeared … I just drank plenty of water and took vitamin C, without taking any medicine before I got well,” she added.

Though the singer has recovered she is being heavily trolled for her irresponsible and risky act.

After the heavy backlash on social media, she deleted the message and apologised to the masses.

“I didn't consider things carefully before making my previous posts. I apologise to the public,” she wrote on Weibo.

“I was worried that if I got infected when the concert was held, it would increase the risk of my colleagues being infected again. So I was thinking that since it is an inevitable thing, why not get ill now when I don't need to leave home so that I can go to work after I recover? It would be safer for all of us,” Zhang explained.

Jane’s shocking act comes at a time when Covid cases in China are soaring high. Reports suggest that the cases will rise to millions in the next few months in China. The infections are rapidly spreading to other countries of the world.
