Hilton to Cut Down Environmental Footprint in Half by 2030

Hilton, an American chain of Luxury & Premium Hotels, has now drawn up plans to cut its environmental footprint in half by 2030 and double its social impact investment around the world.  It has actually set out on a mission to turn Hilton the first major hotel company to institute science-based targets to reduce its carbon emissions and commit to sending zero hotel soap to landfill. Besides, Hilton, according to its top officials, has flagged off the following programs to make a difference:

Hilton Hotels in India are participating in soap recycling with the partnership of Sundara & funding an exclusive factory outlet on the outskirts of Mumbai. Besides preventing soap from going to waste, Sundara also provides employment to local women to be hygiene ambassadors teaching students the importance of hand washing.

Hilton has partnered Room to Read, for the 7th consecutive year, to bring essential life skills training to 600 girls seeking to complete secondary school and has equipped over 26,500 primary school students with the literacy skills they need to succeed in school and beyond. Brands commitment to advancing girls’ education and graduation opportunities continues with its hotels in India and Sri Lanka hosting job shadowing programs, to inform the girls about opportunities in the hospitality industry as well as inspire them through career sharing.

Another initiative to reckon is the 'Global Week of Service', where employees from around the world get an opportunity to participate in local projects to strengthen brand's commitment to serve the community through its month-long, global initiative and spread the light and warmth of hospitality by participating in hands-on service projects.

The leading hotel chain will do away with plastic straws and offer a paper or biodegradable alternative on request. It will implement this move globally across its hotels by the end of 2018.

It has also undertaken the unique ‘Meet with Purpose programme’ to offer socially and environmentally responsible meetings. Under this initiative, it will clear up plastic water bottles from meetings and events in hotels across the EMEA region.
