From doing theatre, starring in Indian films, featuring in a James Bond flick to playing Sandokan in the popular Italian TV mini-series, actor Kabir Bedi has done it all. 

He has lived an enigmatic life that only a few get a chance to experience; nonetheless, the charming actor lived life on his own terms. 

Kabir Bedi was born into a Sikh family and was the son of parents who devoted their life fighting for India’s independence. Bedi is one of the first stars from India who worked in Hindi films and then explored the world of films in Hollywood as well as Europe. 

His career in films, theatre, and television spanned over three countries India, United States, and Italy among other European countries.

And over the years the actor has successfully mesmerized his fans with his enigmatic persona, versatility, and acting skills. He’s well known for playing villainous Sanjay Verma in Khoon Bhari Maang.

 Internationally he’s known best for playing pirate Sandokan (Italian mini-series) and the villain Gobinda in the James Bond film Octopussy. He featured for over a year in the ‘The Bold and the Beautiful’, the second most featured show in the world.

Kabir Bedi says that he has poured his heart out in this book. He defined the process of penning down his life’s journey as “cathartic.” Readers will uncover his turbulent professional life as well as his personal life which was riddled with complex twists and turns and he tells it with “raw emotional honesty.”

Karthika V K, publisher in Westland Publications said, “This is an unusually candid and heart-warming life story with unexpected tragic turns. I think it will surprise even those who know Kabir well.”

He told GQ that this story was churning within with him for the last ten years and he didn’t know how to tell it and the moment he realized how to work on it, the ideas just flew like a river. He had written the story in six months flat and revised it in two months. He wrote the memoir in the form of stories that overlap each other.

He revealed that writing about the past hasn’t been easy however he wanted to be as sincere as possible when it came to writing about the women he loved and other relationships. “There are a lot of things that you want to leave behind but they’re all part of my life so it makes sense to share it with everyone. It wasn’t easy, but at the end of the day, I had to do it, and it was almost cathartic”, he explained.  The memoir will explore his open marriage with Protima Bedi infused with ups and downs, his divorce, and a detailed account of his relationship with Parveen Babi that made it the tabloids. 

People may think 'what a lucky guy' for having one beautiful woman after another. Only I know the price I paid for being an impulsively emotional man," an excerpt from his book read.

In a recent interview with Bollywood Hungama, he opened about his son Siddharth Bedi whom he lost to Schizophrenia when he was only 26. 

“Siddharth was a very brilliant young man... He was exceptional in his abilities, and then suddenly, one day, he couldn't think. We tried so hard to first figure out what was wrong, and for three years, we battled these unknown ghosts, and eventually, he had this extremely violent breakout in the streets of Montreal, and it took eight policemen to nail him down. And then, the doctors in Montreal finally diagnosed him as schizophrenic”, he told Bollywood Hungama. 

The autobiography wanted to capture what families go through when a loved one in their family is diagnosed with a mental illness like Schizophrenia.
