Marriage of Japanese Princess Mako Postponed

The eldest granddaughter of Emperor Akihito of Japan, Princess Mako, who a few months ago expressed her desire to marry a commoner is now locked in dilemma as her parents Prince Akishino and Princess Kiko wants their would be son-in-law Kei Komuro to settle all disputes related to financial problems in his family before they go for marriage.

Prince Akishino and Princess Kiko are concerned about their daughter's marriage, therefore, have asked Kei Komuro to present a life plan about his future career too. The 26-year-old Princess Mako had broken the heart of many in September when she announced her engagement to Komuro, whom she had met at the University in Tokyo. After his graduation, Komuro is working with a law firm in Tokyo.

Earlier the couple had announced that they have received the blessings of the Emperor and are going to marry in the month of November 2018, but later declared that they are delaying the marriage because of lack of preparation and the marriage is delayed till 2020.

Princess Mako has said, “We have come to realise there is a lack of time to make sufficient preparations for various events leading up to our marriage this autumn and our life afterwards. We believe we have rushed various things”.

According to media reports in Japan, the reason for the delay in the wedding of the Princess is because of a financial dispute, which Komuro’s mother is having with her former partner. Some reports say, she has borrowed a loan for her son’s education from her partner and has not yet returned the money. That is where the dispute lies.

Komuro’s mother had several meetings with the parents of the Princess regarding the issue of the marriage between the couple, but the royal parents have made it clear that the wedding and their life together afterward would have an impact because of her financial debts. Though she has denied the loan to be considered as a debt and is working on solving the matter.

Meanwhile, for further studies, Komuro has left for New York, where he enrolled himself for a three-year law course in Fordham University and plans to face state bar exam before returning to Tokyo and to pursue his career further. According to some sources the couple plans to stay in touch with each other. Though there is no official confirmation on the matter from the Imperial Household.
