Maryland Newspaper Office on Fire, Shooting Kills 5

Capital Gazette, a local newspaper office in Annapolis, Maryland were under an attack of a gunman. The individual who opened fire is said to be in his late 30s and has been arrested.

 

The suspect has been identified as Jarrod W. Ramos, who reportedly had sued the particular media house for defamation.

 

The open fire has victimized five employees of Capital Gazette. BBC has brought out the names as follow:

 

• Wendi Winters, 65, reporter

• Rebecca Smith, 34, sales assistant

• Robert Hiaasen, 59, editor

• Gerald Fischman, 61, editorial writer

• John McNamara, 56, reporter and editor

 

Amidst a series of shootouts at schools including the Florida-school-shooting that took around 19 precious lives and the Santa Fe High School shooting in Texas that put to death about 10 individuals, took place the YouTube Headquarter shooting massacre. The last one was executed by an armed woman while the school shootings by young students.

 

The recent mishap is again an appalling reminder that such cases of open fire are increasing in the United States, eventually.

 

President Donald Trump reciprocated to the attack tweeting, “Prior to departing Wisconsin, I was briefed on the shooting at Capital Gazette in Annapolis, Maryland. My thoughts and prayers are with the victims and their families. Thank you to all of the First Responders who are currently on the scene.”

White House Press Secretary Sarah Sanders posted on Twitter, “Strongly condemn the evil act of senseless violence in Annapolis, MD. A violent attack on innocent journalists doing their job is an attack on every American. Our prayers are with the victims and their friends and families.”

As per one of the Gazette officials, people hid under the tables to cover themselves from the open gunfire. The shock and the panic were so intense that they remained under the tables even after the gunman stopped firing. They are not very sure as to why the gunman stopped shooting suddenly.

But no matter how terrified and devastated they were, the horror couldn’t affect their journalistic mindset, work passion, and above all, confidence. A reporter at The Capital, Chase Cook, has put out on Twitter, “I can tell you this: We are putting out a damn paper tomorrow.”
