Russian Scholarships for Studies in Nuclear for Indian Students

Russian State Atomic Energy Corporation, Rosatom, technical consultant and main equipment supplier for the Kudankulam Nuclear Power Plant in Tamil Nadu, India has announced that applications are now open for scholarships in nuclear engineering for Indian students to help develop the next generation of nuclear scientists and engineers. The scholarships fully fund tuition fees and partly - living expenses.

The first round of applications will close on February 15, 2019. The registration is now open on Russia Study website https://russia.study/en and fill in an application form.

Rosatom South Asia CEO Andrey Shevlyakov said that the goal of the scholarship is to support interest in nuclear research and capabilities among young Indian scientists and engineers, and contribute to solve some of the world’s most critical issues in the nearest future, allowing thereby for the continent to be self-sufficient.

Scholarships will be made available for students interested in studying nuclear energy-related fields in Russia and include tuition fees and free preparatory courses of Russian language (depends on university programme).

Students will have access to subsidized accommodation, library funds and practical experience at Russian nuclear enterprises. Several study options will be made available at Russian universities specializing in nuclear engineering such as the National Research Nuclear University MEPhI in Moscow and Tomsk Polytechnic University (TPU) in Siberia.

MEPhI is a leading Russian university in this field with more than 75 years of expertise in nuclear engineering. This university is the key partner of Rosatom in the field of educating young high-qualified nuclear specialists and today hosts more than 1500 foreign students from across 57 countries.

Bachelor’s degree course includes programmes in Nuclear Power Engineering and Thermal Physics; Nuclear Reactors and Materials; Nuclear Power Plants: Design, Operation and Engineering. Masters degree programme in Nuclear Physics and Engineering; Nuclear Power Engineering and Thermo Physics and Postgraduate Degree in Nuclear Power Engineering and Technologies are also available.

Interestingly, TPU is the only Russian university equipped with a nuclear research reactor available for foreign students. The IRT-T research reactor has been commissioned in July 1967 and is now used for research in peaceful atom technologies such as nuclear medicine, transmutation neutron alloying, isotope engineering, thorium power engineering. Over the last 60 years or so, more than 12000 specialists have graduated from TPU, including 8000 trained in nuclear engineering and research.
