Series of Pipe Bombs Sent to Clinton, Obama and Others

Series of Pipe bombs were sent to former US President Barack Obama, former Presidential Candidate Hillary Clinton and many other prominent people including some high profile Democrats. Police have intercepted suspected pipe bombs described it as an act of terrorism.

New York Governor Andrew Cuomo, a Democrat and Eric Holder, who was US Attorney General under former President Barack Obama, were also among those targeted. A similar pipe bomb was delivered earlier this week to the home of George Soros, a major Democratic Party donor. Till now, no one has claimed the responsibility of the act.

Mayor of New York, Bill de Blasio condemned the act and said, “This clearly is an act of terror attempting to undermine our free press and leaders of this country through acts of violence”.

White House spokesperson Sarah Sanders, said on her Twitter handle, “Our condemnation of these despicable acts certainly includes threats made to CNN as well as current or former public servants. These cowardly acts are unacceptable and won't be tolerated”.

The US is deeply polarized under President Donald Trump and now the packages of pipe bombs have brought a new level of tension before the November 6 election, which is going to decide whether Democrats can challenge the majorities, which is now held by Donald Trump’s Republicans in the Congress.

The package to Obama was recovered early on Wednesday morning while the package meant for Clinton was found late on Tuesday evening, during routine off-site mail screenings, according to the Secret Service. Obama and Clinton were not at risk now, they confirmed.

The Police also intercepted what appeared to be a live explosive device and an envelope containing white powder at the Time Warner Center in New York, which houses the CNN office too. Experts are now trying to analyze whether the powder was a dangerous substance or not.

CNN is a regular target of Donald Trump, who routinely calls the media house the enemy of the people and its important coverage as fake news. Though the package received by CNN office in New York was addressed to former CIA director John Brennan, who is a periodic guest and the commentator on the Television News Network.

If one can remember, after the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, in the following weeks' anthrax powder were mailed to news media offices and two US senators, killing five people and infecting 17 others. But here things seem the other way, maybe dirty politics.
