27-Year-Old Event Manager Died on NH 2 after Being Chased by Miscreants And Harassing Her Car

An event manager and dancer from Kolkata died after a high-speed chase on the National Highway 2. Sutandra Chatterjee, a resident of Chandernagore was traveling to Gaya, Bihar for an event when drunk men in a car chased her vehicle. Two of my colleagues in the car sustained some injuries. As per reports, the incident happened around 12:30 AM early in the morning and the two cars were seized but arrests are yet to be made.

Police commissioner of Durgapur and Asansol Sunil Kumar Choudhary claimed "We have studied CCTV footage and have found that trouble arose when a white car, while overtaking the woman's car, grazed it. As per CCTV footage, the woman's car was chasing the other vehicle and met with an accident leading to the woman's death. We have started a case based on a complaint by one of the occupants of the car in which the woman was traveling,"

Her colleagues, Mintu Mondal, and Driver Rajdeo claimed harassment. Mondol lodged the FIR claiming that the occupants in a white car were constantly harassing them and ramming their cars for almost a 10-kilometer stretch. The high-speed chase ended after the victim’s car overturned because of high speeds. "There were five men in the car. They constantly honked and made obscene gestures at Madam while driving next to our car. They kept overtaking us and then allowing us to go ahead. They chased us to Panagarh (150km northwest of Kolkata), and in the process, there were multiple collisions between our cars. We tried to avoid them, fearing they were robbers,"

As per the statement from Mondol, the occupants including the driver of the white car were intoxicated and upon causing the incident, they left the car and fled the place. "We crawled out of the car, but madam was bleeding and unresponsive. The youths in the white car stood there for a while but fled, leaving their vehicle behind,". Mondal also claimed of holding two men after crawling out of the vehicle but had to leave them to attend Sutandra.

Sutandra was the only breadwinner in the family after her father passed away due to cancer. She supported two of her grandmothers and her mother who was an ailing patient. Her mother was seen grieving over her daughter and also claimed that her death was unnatural. After the incident, Police rejected the plea claiming that it was a road rage and the victim’s car was at fault leading to the death.
