Corrections
How to report an error in a Scrabbl article, and what we do about it.
We get things wrong sometimes. When we do, we fix it in the open. This page explains how to tell us about an error and what we will do about it.
Reporting an error
Email info@scrabbl.com with "Correction" in the subject line. Please include:
- the headline or a link to the article;
- what is wrong, quoting the passage if you can;
- what the correct information is, and a source for it if you have one.
We acknowledge correction requests within two working days.
What we do
- Factual error. We verify the claim, correct the article, and add a dated correction note at the foot of the article saying what was changed. The article's updated date changes.
- Significant error — one that changes the meaning of the story, such as a wrong figure in a headline or a misattributed quotation — also gets a note at the top of the article.
- Small changes such as spelling or grammar are made silently, because they do not change what the article says.
- Developing stories. When new information emerges after publication, we update the article and say what changed rather than rewriting history.
- Withdrawal. If an article turns out to be fundamentally wrong, we withdraw it and leave a note in its place explaining why. We do not delete articles quietly to hide a mistake.
What we don't do
We do not remove accurate, lawfully published reporting because someone dislikes it, and we do not accept payment to alter or remove an article. Requests to take down accurate content on legal grounds should be sent to info@scrabbl.com with the legal basis stated.
Complaints
If you are unhappy with how we handled a correction, reply to our response and ask for it to be escalated to Jude Mohanty, who will review it and reply with a final decision.
