All You Need to Know about the Harop Drones
Harop Drones can engage targets from a distance of 1500 feet and can damage the targets in moments. Precision and efficiency are the core abilities of the drone.
Amid rising tension between India and Pakistan, several air defence systems are in place, providing safety to both nations. The initiation of the war started when Pakistan attacked civilians on April 22nd, 2025, near the valley of Pahalgam. In retaliation, the Indian Defence teams struck various places in Pakistan without targeting the civilians.
Indian Forces Retaliated with Harop drones, which were extremely precise and lightweight. The information on the drones used came directly from Pakistan. India supposedly used the Israel-made drones on Pakistan, which are specifically known as Suicide bombs. Since the information was broadcasted, the attention towards the drones has increased because of the operational and war-oriented goals.
On May 7th, India launched its retaliation method in which the Harop drones were used to dismantle close to 9 terror camps all across Pakistan. The codename assigned was “Operation Sindoor”. The Pakistani Army also tried to defend its airspace and reportedly shot down a few of the Harop drones. Most of the drones shot down were within the limits of Lahore and Karachi.
“Debris is being collected from all impact sites, including within Karachi and Lahore city limits. We are neutralising them one by one,” claimed a spokesperson from the Pakistani Army. The category of the drones is said to be “loitering Munitions” as it is believed to be one of the most lethal aerial weapons ever developed.
The drones are quipped with an explosive payload and can hover for a longer duration. Not just this, but they can identify the hostile targets of their own and attack them. The precision of the drones has made them quite useful and popular over the period time as these are equipped with Electro-Optical sensors that can detect, track, and engage the static targets at ease. The drones are also capable of autonomous engagement with minimal human intervention, and enable the operators to abort the mission in case they find a discrepancy.
The maximum speed is limited to 420 km/h, and it can fly at a height of 1500 feet, including a weight of 16 kg of explosives. Be it a shallow or a steep height, Harop can effectively take down the targets. Even when the GPS is jammed, Harop can successfully enter the airspace and attack the target at ease. The drones became popular during the 2020 Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, where Azerbaijan had deployed two of their drones on Armenian forces. The drones are specifically designed to target air defence systems and armoured units deployed on the ground.
