Delhi Man Dupes Devotees, Earns 9 Crore

A man from Delhi has been arrested as he gained the trust of devotees and duped them of 9 crores. Mohit Wadhwa, a resident of Delhi, was arrested on 9th May. He attended the Spiritual events of a Guruji, after which he gained the trust of certain devotees and requested them to make investments for unrealistic returns. Mohit had put forward some investment schemes ahead of devotees that they could not refuse.

Mohit and his allies would organise Satsangs quite frequently, for which a large crowd would come to attend. Among all the devotees, Mohit could successfully identify 14 devotees who were a perfect prey for his idea, and he managed to collect the funds from the devotees.

The money was used to exhibit his lavish lifestyle, along with some investments in cryptocurrency. As per sources, Mohit is just 44 years old, and he is a mere 12th pass. Police officials have also claimed that Mohit has been apprehended in the past, where a similar series of incidents had followed.

“Leveraging the trust built within the religious community, they allegedly lured victims to invest in various schemes based in Dubai. The accused promised extraordinarily high returns and collected around ₹9 crore in multiple installments between September 2017 and September 2020,” claimed the Police Commissioner of EOW.

After a complaint was filed by an individual named Gurpreet Rai, three more individuals came forward and filed a complaint with the police. In their FIR, they claimed that despite repeated reassurance, Mohit dd not return the money nor he provided any form of documents of the investment money he took from the devotees.

DCP Delhi claimed that some trace of the money was found after the bank accounts were examined. The transactions between both the accused and the alleged matched. “The evidence gathered so far confirms the allegations against Mohit Wadhwa, and efforts are on to trace his associates,” claimed DCP Delhi

Mohit has been arrested on the basis of IPC 402, 420, and 120-B at the EOW police station. Two weeks ago, a man in Nagpur duped his friend of 6 lakhs rupees in an alleged car sale scam. The victim was intending to buy a car from the accused and transferred some money. However, the accused sold off the car and kept the money for himself. Even after repeated reminders, the accused did not bother to return the money.

Fed up with the situation, the victim then filed a complaint, post which the accused was arrested by the Juni Kamptee police station of Nagpur.
