Dharrmendra Hospitalised in Mumbai: Family Confirms Veteran Actor Is Stable
Bollywood legend Dharmendra, 89, was admitted to Mumbai’s Breach Candy Hospital after experiencing breathlessness. Family members confirm he is stable and recovering, dismissing false reports of his death circulating on social media.
Veteran Bollywood actor Dharmendra was hospitalised on Sunday evening after complaining of breathlessness, sources confirmed. The 89-year-old actor is under observation at Breach Candy Hospital in Mumbai, where his condition remains stable, according to his family.
Rumours of the actor’s death began circulating online early Tuesday morning, prompting widespread concern among fans. However, family members, including his wife Hema Malini and daughter Esha Deol, have publicly refuted the reports, urging people not to spread misinformation.
“Papa is stable and recovering. Please don’t believe in fake news. Thank you for all your love and prayers,” Esha Deol wrote on X (formerly Twitter).
Shortly after his hospitalisation, some media outlets reported that Dharmendra had been placed on ventilator support. The Deol family’s official spokesperson, however, denied these claims, clarifying that the actor is not on life support and is being routinely monitored by doctors.
“Mr Dharmendra is stable and under observation. Kindly don’t indulge in spreading false rumours regarding his health,” a statement from the family said on Monday.
Security has been tightened at Breach Candy Hospital as fans gathered outside after the rumours spread online.
Actress and politician Hema Malini briefly spoke to reporters outside the hospital, assuring well-wishers that Dharmendra is “doing fine.”
“He is in good spirits. The doctors are taking great care of him. We are grateful for everyone’s prayers,” she said.
Several Bollywood celebrities, including Amitabh Bachchan, Sunny Deol, and Bobby Deol, have visited the hospital or posted online messages wishing the actor a speedy recovery.
Known as the He-Man of Bollywood, Dharmendra’s illustrious career spans over six decades, featuring classics such as Sholay, Chupke Chupke, Satyakam, and Phool Aur Patthar. His enduring charm and versatility have made him one of Indian cinema’s most celebrated figures.
The actor recently appeared in Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani (2023) and is slated to feature in Sriram Raghavan’s upcoming film Ikkis, alongside Agastya Nanda. Production sources suggest the project’s schedule has been temporarily adjusted in light of his health condition.
Dharmendra is set to turn 90 on December 8, 2025. Fans from across India have taken to social media with messages of support, calling him “a symbol of strength and grace.”
“He’s a fighter — always has been,” said a close family friend. “The family is confident he’ll be back home soon.”
As of Tuesday night, Dharmendra remains hospitalised but stable. The family has requested privacy and has asked fans to rely only on verified updates from official sources.
