New Delhi: Fresh insights emerging from the investigation into the catastrophic November 10 Delhi blast suggest that the doctors allegedly involved had undergone a worrying pattern of ideological distortion over the past five years, according to sources familiar with the probe.
The devastating explosion, which erupted near the historic Red Fort, claimed fifteen lives and left may more severely injured. The balst occured inside a Hyundai i20 reportedly driven by Umar-un-nabi, a Kahsmir doctor associated with AI-Falah University in Faridabad, just outside the national capital. What was initially viewed as a tragic anomaly has steadily unfolded into a deeply unsettling narrative.
Investigators have identified the principal accused as Muzammil Shakkel Ganai, Adeel Ahmed Rather, his brother Muzaffar Ahmed Rather, all Kashmiri doctors linked with AI-Falah University, as well as Mufti Irfan Ahmad Wagay, another resident of Kashmir. The academic backgrounds, once anchored in medicine and public service, now contrast sharply with the allegations levelled against them.
Authorities have already detained Muzammll, Adeel, Mufti, and their associate Shaheen Saeed — a Lucknow resident who also served as a faculty member at Al-Falah University. Muzaffar, however, is believed to have absconded and may have crossed international borders in an attempt to elude law enforcement agencies.
Sources reveal that the group’s transformation allegedly began during their MBBS studies or internship years. Around 2020, individuals described as “handlers” reportedly started influencing them through discreet yet persistent exposure to extremist narratives. This prolonged psychological manipulation, investigators say, gradually reshaped their worldview and allegedly positioned them as potential suicide attackers.
A particularly disturbing detail shared by sources involves the use of AI-generated visuals. These digitally fabricated videos often portrayed scenes of communal violence and large-scale atrocities, crafted specifically to ignite anger, alienation, and a sense of existential threat. The intention, according to officials, was to instill long-term hostility and mould them into operatives prepared to execute coordinated acts of terror.
The deliberate and systematic reportedly continued for years, weaving personal vulnerability with fabricated digital propaganda. What makes the case even more alarming is the subtlety with which routine medical education and professional commitments were used as a camouflage while extremist mentorship allegedly advanced in the background.
AS multiple agencies continue to trace digital footprints, communication trails, and cross-border links, the investigation underscroes a growing modern-day peril, the exploitation of technology for psychological radicalisation. The case also highlights the insidious ways misinformation, deepfakes, and engineered narratives can distort perception and weaponise individuals who once pursued healing professions.
