Hollywood Star Scarlett Johansson Reacts Strongly against The Misuse of AI
Scarlett Johansson has issued a statement condemning the misuse of AI after a video featuring her likeness went viral.
Hollywood star Scarlett Johansson has called on US lawmakers to regulate the use of Artificial Intelligence, following the circulation of an unauthorized video featuring her and other jewish celebrities. The actress has issued a statement against the misuse of AI.
In the AI video, many prominent personalities are seen opposing Kanye West’s anti-Semitic statements.
The AI video features Scarlett wearing a white T-shirt, depicting a hand with the middle finger gesture.
The T-shirt also features the Star of David displayed at the center of the hand, and the word Kanye written underneath.
The clip features stars like Drake, Jerry Seinfeld, Steven Spielberg, and Jack Black. Likenesses of Steven Spielberg, Adam Sandler and Sacha Baron Cohen were also used without their permission.
The video carries the slogan, “Enough is enough. Join the fight against anti-Semitism.”
“It has been brought to my attention by family members and friends, that an AI-generated video featuring my likeness, in response to an anti-Semitic view, has been circulating online and gaining traction,” Johansson said in the statement, adding, “I am a Jewish woman who has no tolerance for anti-Semitism or hate speech of any kind. But I also firmly believe that the potential for hate speech multiplied by AI is a far greater threat than any one person who takes accountability for it,” she said.
“We must call out the misuse of AI, no matter its messaging, or we risk losing a hold on reality.”
“It is terrifying that the US government is paralyzed when it comes to passing legislation that protects all of its citizens against the imminent dangers of AI. I urge the US government to make the passing of legislation limiting AI use a top priority; it is a bipartisan issue that enormously affects the immediate future of humanity at large,” she concluded.
The online video is the work of Guy Bar and Ori Bejerano, digital marketers for the Israel-based creative agency Gitam BBDO.
Apparently, the video is in response to Kanye, now known as Ye, who directed viewers to his Yeezy website during the Super Bowl, which was selling t-shirts featuring swastikas and the product code HH.
He was dropped by his talent agency following a series of anti-Semitic statements.
