IIM Lucknow Unveils AI-Centric Academic Pathways to Power India’s Digital Future
IIM Lucknow launched new AI-focused undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral programmes, aiming to integrate technology with management and public policy while advancing India’s ethical, inclusive, and globally competitive digital ambitions.
New Delhi witnessed a significant academic milestone as Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan inaugurated IIM Lucknow’s newly introduced undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral programmes in Artificial Intelligence during the Bharat Bodhan AI Conclave 2026. The launch signals a deliberate attempt to fuse AI studies with management thinking and public policy, ensuring innovation remains both commercially viable and socially attuned.
Addressing the gathering, Pradhan underscored the necessity of embedding responsibility at the heart of technological expansion. Citing Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s call to make India AI-ready, he stressed that artificial intelligence must evolve as an ethical and inclusive force rather than a disruptive imbalance. According to him, India’s AI ecosystem should be interoperable in architecture, sovereign in capability, and inclusive by default. He also emphasized building scalable, India-focused AI frameworks capable of strengthening education systems and advancing the broader ambition of Viksit Bharat 2047.

Professor MP Gupta, Director of IIM Lucknow, described the programmes as meticulously structured and modular in design. He explained that the curriculum seeks to harmonize technological sophistication with real-world business acumen. Rather than isolating AI as a purely technical discipline, the institution aims to cultivate leaders who can deploy intelligent systems judiciously while fostering entrepreneurship and digital stewardship.
The institute has introduced three distinct academic tracks centered on artificial intelligence:
BS in Artificial Intelligence and Business Analytics (4 years): Scheduled to commence in the 2026–27 academic session, this programme will admit students who have completed 10+2 and meet JEE Advanced eligibility criteria. It blends foundational AI principles with analytical and managerial frameworks.
Tech MBA (2 years): Expected to launch in 2027–28, this course integrates technological expertise with strategic management education, preparing professionals to navigate AI-driven enterprises.
Integrated BS + Tech MBA (5 years): Students enrolled in the BS programme may transition into this combined pathway, culminating in dual qualifications that span technical depth and executive competence.
Collectively, these initiatives are guided by three interlinked aspirations: nurturing individual mastery, catalyzing national transformation, and positioning India as a global vanguard in AI-enabled management. By weaving together advanced analytics, machine intelligence, and leadership training, IIM Lucknow seeks to contribute meaningfully to India’s digital imperatives, including the Digital India initiative and the IndiaAI Mission.
Beyond academic credentials, the broader vision centers on purposeful research, leveraging AI not merely for efficiency but for societal advancement.
