IIT KGP Delegation Visits US for International Outreach

The Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur, the first, the largest and the most diverse among the IITs in India, is keen to engage with bright and promising doctoral students and post-doctoral fellows in the US and discuss academic career options at the Institute. A team of delegates led by Director of the Institute Prof. P P Chakrabarti is visiting Washington DC on September 8, Boston area on September 11, Miami on September 12, Houston on September 13 and Bay Area, California on September 16 for meeting researchers interested in various academic positions. Talented researchers looking for a career in one of the best higher education and R&D institutions in India can meet the team from IIT KGP at any of the events.

Whether it is innovative research or developing new methods of teaching and education; whether it is inspiring creative attitude among students or contributing to the frontiers of knowledge, faculty members are the true catalyst and harbinger of change here at IIT Kharagpur. Talented faculty members are our driving force. We are expanding our frontiers and are keenly looking to have among us the future leaders in teaching and research” said Prof Chakrabarti.

 

He is accompanied by Prof. Subhasish Tripathy, Dean Faculty, Prof. Baidurya Bhattacharya, Dean, International Relations and Prof. Subrata Chattopadhyay, Dean, Alumni Affairs. Several initiatives and focused meetings have been planned to strengthen the international relations of IIT Kharagpur. The Director will meet with the top administration of George Washington University Law School with whom the Institute already has a technical collaboration agreement. He will hold focused meetings on academic and research collaboration with the top administration of Association of Public and Land-Grant Universities including presidents and administrators of several universities namely, Penn State, Virginia Tech etc. Similar meetings will be held with the President of University of Massachusetts Dartmouth, chancellors of UC San Diego and University of Houston. MoUs will be signed in this regard with UMass Dartmouth and Houston.


The Director will meet the Indian Ambassador of the USA, Consul Generals of Houston and San Francisco and representatives from NASA, National Science Foundation and Confederation of Indian Industries. Several meetings will be held with top industrialists and corporate leaders including alumni of IIT Kharagpur in Bay Area and leaders in the petroleum industry in Houston. Additional interaction will happen with several other universities including Rice, Stanford, Texas A&amp'M, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, UC Berkeley and UC Los Angeles.

 

Some key areas to be discussed are possible joint initiatives by the US and India in Artificial Intelligence (AI), Media Lab and Climate Change. IIT Kharagpur has already set up centers of excellence in these areas.
