Kolkata Tragedy: Postmortem Reports Indicate Possible Homicide
A tragic incident in Kolkata saw two women and a teenage girl found dead, while two men and a boy survived a car crash. Postmortem reports suggest possible homicide, prompting further police investigation.
The shocking deaths of two women and a teenage girl in a Kolkata residence may not be a case of suicide, as initially suspected. According to the postmortem reports, there are indications of possible foul play, sources in Kolkata police revealed. The deceased individuals—two sisters-in-law and the daughter of one of them—were discovered lifeless in their home on Wednesday. Their husbands and a teenage son were later involved in a car accident and are currently hospitalized. The man reportedly informed the police that they had attempted suicide.
The two women were found with deep cuts on their wrists, but the postmortem examination uncovered additional injuries, suggesting a more violent scenario. Both women had severe throat slashes, leading to fatal blood loss. The 14-year-old girl exhibited bruises on her chest, legs, lips and head. Additionally, forensic reports confirmed that she had been poisoned.
Authorities identified the victim and their family members as follows: brothers Pranoy and Prasun Dey lived in the Tangra residence with their wives, Sudeshna and Romi Dey. Pranoy and Sedeshna had a son, Pratik, while Prasun and Romi’s daughter was Priyambada.
The sequence of events leading to the discovery of the deaths began when the two men and Pratik were involved in a high-impact car crash near Abhishikta crossing on the Eastern Metropolitan Bypass—one of Kolkata’s major thoroughfares—around 4 AM. Though all three sustained injuries, they survived and were subsequently taken to the hospital for medical attention.
During questioning, one of the men stated that they had intentionally driven the car into a metro pillar in an attempt to take their own lives. He further claimed that the women had already died by suicide before they left the house. However, inconsistencies in their statements and forensic findings have led the police to investigate alternative angles, including the possibility of homicide.
Following the crash, authorities conducted a thorough search of the family’s Tangra residence, where they discovered the three deceased individuals in separate rooms. The police meticulously gathered forensic samples and other pivotal evidence from the scene.
The postmortem procedures were carried out at NRS Medical College and Hospital under strict supervision, with the entire process being recorded on video in the presence of police officers.
Investigators suspect that financial distress may have played a significant role in this tragic incident. The family reportedly ran a tannery business, which was struggling due to economic hardship. Law enforcement officials are currently exploring whether this was a case of murder followed by an attempted suicide. Further inquiries and forensic analyses will be crucial in determining the exact sequence of events.
The case has left the city in shock, with residents eagerly awaiting more clarity on the mysterious and unsettling circumstances surrounding these deaths. Authorities have assured a detailed investigation to uncover the truth behind this heartrending incident.
