Digital creator-turned-actor Kusha Kapila has addressed the ongoing debate around influencers landing acting opportunities in films and OTT projects, saying the criticism from trained actors is understandable. Speaking about her transition into acting while promoting the second season of, she admitted that social media popularity and acting talent are not the same thing.
Kapila reflected on how her early success online gave her confidence that acting would come naturally too, but the industry quickly proved otherwise. She said the experience forced her to step back, train seriously, and approach acting as a craft rather than an extension of internet fame. According to her, creators who want longevity in entertainment cannot rely only on followers and visibility.
The actor explained that she consciously turned down projects during the early phase of her acting journey because she did not feel fully prepared. She emphasized that performers entering the industry from digital platforms need to invest time in learning, rehearsing, and improving if they want to be taken seriously beyond promotional value.
Kapila also pushed back against the idea that OTT platforms cast influencers purely for their online reach. In her view, audiences today are quick to reject performances that feel shallow or inauthentic, making follower count an unreliable long-term strategy for casting decisions. She argued that sustainable success in acting still depends on skill, preparation, and the ability to connect with viewers through performance rather than social media numbers alone.
The discussion comes at a time when more internet personalities are moving into mainstream entertainment, especially on streaming platforms. Kapila was widely known for her content creation before getting recognized for her acting skills.
