Mira Nair Announces ‘Amri’ with Priyanka Chopra, Jaideep Ahlawat And Jim Sarbh
Mira Nair’s upcoming film Amri brings together Priyanka Chopra Jonas, Jaideep Ahlawat, and Jim Sarbh in a sweeping biographical drama inspired by the life of iconic artist Amrita Sher-Gil.
Acclaimed filmmaker Mira Nair is bringing the life of legendary painter Amrita Sher-Gil to the big screen with her upcoming international film Amri. The project has already generated strong buzz thanks to a star-studded cast that includes Priyanka Chopra Jonas, Jaideep Ahlawat, and Jim Sarbh.
The film will reportedly trace Sher-Gil’s extraordinary artistic journey across Europe and India during the early 20th century. Often regarded as one of India’s most influential modern artists, Sher-Gil’s work blended European techniques with deeply Indian themes — an artistic fusion that appears to have inspired Nair for decades.
Actor Anjali Sivaraman has been cast in the lead role as Amrita Sher-Gil after what reports describe as an extensive global search. The ensemble also features Emily Watson and several international performers alongside the Indian cast.
According to the announcement, Priyanka Chopra Jonas will not only appear in the film but will also serve as an executive producer, marking her first major collaboration with Mira Nair. Meanwhile, Jaideep Ahlawat is set to portray Sher-Gil’s father, while Jim Sarbh takes on another pivotal role connected to the artist’s creative world.
The announcement has sparked excitement among cinema lovers, especially because Amri combines art history, biographical storytelling, and an internationally recognized creative team. Known for films such as Monsoon Wedding and The Namesake, Nair is expected to bring her signature visual richness and emotional depth to the project.
The film is set to delve beyond Sher-Gil’s artistic genius, exploring her sense of identity, personal ambition, and cultural experiences — subjects that strike a chord with modern viewers.
