Moto G6 and Moto G6 Play Listed Online by Mistake, Specs and Pricing Revealed Ahead of Launch

There has been lot of speculation around the launch of Moto G6 and Moto G6 Play. While Lenovo owned Motorola is gearing up for this year's launch of flagship phones, in the upcoming months, ahead of the launch, full specs and prices of both the G6 series phones have been leaked online. As reported by Android Police, both the Moto G6 and G6 Play were seen listed on an American online store called the Frys a few hours back. The page has been removed which seems to have accidentally leaked the information or was it actually a marketing gimmick, who knows? As per the listing, the Moto G6 will be priced around $249 which roughly converts to Rs 16,000. While the G6 Play is apparently a cheaper model, as it is seen listed at $199, which is approximately around Rs 13,000.

According to the online store listing, both the Moto G6 and G6 Play will have a 32GB storage model, which will be the base variant. The listing, which was live until Sunday, has now been pulled down by the e-commerce website. Talking about the pricing first, the listing reveals that both the Moto G6 and G6 Play are going to be budget segment phones. Moto G6 base model with 32GB storage will cost around $249 (roughly Rs 16,000), while the G6 Play is priced at $199 (roughly Rs 13000). In addition, the e-commerce listing also revealed the complete specs details of both the Moto G6 series phones.

According to the disclosure of the online listing Moto G6 will sport a 5.7-inch Full HD+ display with an aspect ratio of 18:9. The display of the phone will be protected with Gorilla Glass on top. The smartphone is expected to come with a dual rear camera set up, the megapixels of which were not mentioned in the listing. On the front, the Moto G6 will come with an 8-megapixel sensor paired with an LED flash. Both the front and rear cameras of the Moto G6 and G6 Play will include several additional features like face filters, landmark recognition, object recognition, text scanning, and active photos which will work much like the live photos feature seen on iPhones. Moto G6 will also come packed with Face Unlock support.

The fingerprint sensor of the Moto G6 will be placed in the front panel of the phone right below the display, with which users can not only unlock the device, but also the apps. The face unlock feature will also let users access websites protected with passwords on their laptops using a feature called Moto Key. The Moto G6, much like most of the new Motorola phones will run near stock Android out-of-the-box. The smartphone will be powered by a 1.8GHz octa core processor coupled with 3GB RAM and 32GB storage. The smartphone is expected to be backed by a 3000mAh battery which will come with support for TurboPower fast charging. As for the availability details, Moto G6 is expected to ship starting May 10, which hints at April launch of the phone.

Moto G6 Play will be a cheaper model compared to G6. The smartphone is expected to come with same 5.7-inch Full HD+ display with an aspect ratio of 18:9 as the G6. The handset will come with a 5-megapixel front-facing camera and a 13-megapixel sensor on the rear. You can expect the Moto G6 Play to come with the same camera features as discussed for the Moto G6 like face filters, landmark recognition, object recognition, text scanning, and active photos. Moto G6 Play is expected to have a bigger battery set compared to the Moto G6. The smartphone is tipped to come with a 4,000mAh battery which is claimed to deliver 36 hours backup on a single charge. Moto G6 Play is also tipped to come with features like front fingerprint scanner, a microSD card slot, Dolby Audio, and also support Moto Experiences (Moto Display and Moto Actions). The smartphone will be powered by an unspecified 1.4GHz quad-core Snapdragon processor coupled with 3GB RAM and 32GB of internal storage. As for the availability details, Moto G6 is expected to ship starting May 17, which hints at April launch of the phone.

Though the Fry’s disclosure didn’t include the Moto G6 Plus, a separate leak from SlashLeaks reveal a high-end variant of the Moto G6 does exist. It will apparently feature a 5.93-inch FHD+ display, a Snapdragon 630 processor, a dual camera setup on the back (12MP+5MP), a 16MP front snapper, a 3200mAh battery, and Android 8.0 Oreo.

According to tech analysts, Moto G6 series will be heavily inspired by the Moto X4 with the same glass back and puck-shape camera. Motorola was rumoured to launch the Moto G6, Moto G6 Play and Moto G6 Plus at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona in February this year. However, the launch didn’t happen. The company is expected to have April launch of the Moto G6 series in India. Xiaomi Redmi 5 has been rated as the best buy in recent launches, let’s see how Moto fares with the latest G6 series.
