Operation Shiva Launched: Unprecedented Security Ahead of Amarnath Yatra

New Delhi: Barely a month after the chilling terror assault in pahalgam that claimed 26innocent lives, another threat looms large as India braces for the commencement of the sacred Amarnath Yatra. The annual spirituals journey, which attracts thousands of Shiva devotees, now stands at the intersection of faith and fear.

To pre-empt any security lapses and prevent further bloodshed, Indian forces have initiated “Opeartion Shiva”, a comprehensive safety operation aimed at ensuring the smooth and secure conduct of the 38-day pilgrimage. The yatra, begins on July 3 and culminates on August 9, taking pilgrims on a rigorous trek to the holy cave shrine located 3,880 metres above sea level in the Himalayas.

The first batch of pilgrims is set to depart from Srinagar in buses on July 3. Preparations, meanwhile, are in full throttle, with an intensified focus on safeguarding devotees through meticulous planning and unwavering vigilance.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah has instructed all security agencies to remain on maximum alert. A multitude of top administrative, police, and paramilitary officers have already reviewed the arrangements at Yatri Niwas, a key shelter point for pilgrims.

Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha has personally examined the readiness of the security apparatus. Over 50,000 troops, drawn from the Indian Army and paramilitary forces, have been strategically stationed along the pilgrimage path, base camps, and high-risk zones.

The multilayered security blueprint includes:

• Drones and helicopters for aerial surveillance
• RFID tags for real-time tracking of every registered pilgrim
• 3D mapping of the complete route for strategic planning
• Body scanners, CCTV cameras, and 24/7 surveillance systems at checkpoints
• Regular mock drills and deployment of anti-sabotage units

Moreover, a three-tier security framework has been implemented to bolster threat detection and response. The entry and exit points have undergone through security audits. A staggering 500+ companies of paramilitary forces have encased the rigion in a fortified security net.

This colossal security build-up follows the APril pahalgam massacre, where Pakistan-backend terrorists ruthlessly gunned down touristes and a local pony ride operator. The incident has intensified the urgency for counter-terrorism preparedness along sensitive routes.

As the yatra approaches, “Operation Shiva” stands not just as a protective mission but a testament to the nation’s resolve—faith must prevail over fear, and devotion must not be derailed by violence.
